Comparing Trump to Truman is completely absurd and highly insulting to Truman.

Yeah, invoking Harry Truman to justify Donald Trump is pretty much the definition of having one's head jammed up one's ass.

You've missed the primary point folks. Reading for comprehension seems to be a dwindling skill. Both were businessmen.

Maybe we need to discuss Herbert Hoover. Was he a failure or a success? Forget the judgement of the masses.

"Both were businessmen" in this case is as meaningful a comparison as "both had arms", which is the point that you are so desperately attempting to avoid as you flail like a fish on a dock.

Darren, "you missed the point" appears to be your code for, "I screwed up, but rather than admit it, I'm going to try to deflect with a strawman"...

In this case, nobody missed your "point". Your point clearly was that neither man was a politician, and when that was proven conclusively false, you've now tried to cook up some after the fact alternative "point" that you're accusing people of "missing"...

Much like your Fearful Leader, you can't bring yourself to admit when you flat out got it wrong...

What experience did a businessman like Truman and Hoover have and Trump has that politicians do not?

FWIW having worked on projects from small to large there's a similar life experience.

It's one that got something done that pissed the state of WV off but got a weather related sensor installed and operating on a widespread network (IFLOWS) in the Appalachians.

Geez ma knees, you're still trying to claim that Harry Truman wasn't a politician... :? :shrug

And you're accusing others of having reading comprehension issues?

Man, I'm glad I don't have your nerve in my tooth...

ETA:

There's one business accomplishment Trump has that is unequaled by any other other President...(and few other businessmen)

Four bankruptcies...

A remarkable achievement. When it comes to going bankrupt, Trump has no peers...

Again you're missing the point, Jim.

Have you ever read the book The Nature of Prejudice by Gordon Allport?

It's not a fast read. It's still the definitive book after 60+ years.

FWIW racial prejudicial is a thimble full of water compared to an ocean of water. We're all prejudiced. Me, you and everyone else.

Thinking you're not is a red flag. I also recommend the Power of Habit. Both books help explain human behavior to the extent it is either not consciously changeable or extremely difficult.

"First published in 1954, The Nature of Prejudice remains the standard work on discrimination. With profound insight into the complexities of the human experience, Harvard psychologist Gordon Allport organized a mass of research to produce a landmark study on the roots and nature of prejudice. Allport's comprehensive and penetrating work examines all aspects of this age-old problem: its roots in individual and social psychology, its varieties of expression, its impact on the individuals and communities. He explores all kinds of prejudice -- racial, religious, ethnic, economic and sexual -- and offers suggestions for reducing the devastating effects of discrimination."

Yeah, that last post was hilarious... he's really trying to have me on...

As diversionary rabbit holes go, I have to admit that one was pretty imaginative...

Of course his posts comparing Trump with Truman and insisting falsely that Truman wasn't a politician were really all about prejudice and discrimination, even though he never mentioned either one ..

How could I possibly not have seen that?

A snippet:
My roommates moved out of my Brooklyn apartment just ahead of the pandemic, and their replacements haven’t moved in yet. (At this point, they might not move in at all.) This means I haven’t had much company in the last week, and based on current covid-19 predictions, it might be like this for a long time. I am lonely and scared and anxious, but I have mitigated some of these feelings with my day’s two bright spots: 1) My afternoon run, and 2) New York Governor Andrew Cuomo’s daily streamed press conference.

I worked in local New York news for years and developed an intense and reasonable dislike of Cuomo. He has repeatedly hindered attempts to reform the criminal justice system, he took advantage of a once largely conservative state Congress to keep progressive legislation on reproductive health from becoming law, he fucked around with the MTA so much he forced out the only useful subway leader the administration’s ever seen, etc., etc., etc.

And yet, in this time of crisis, with little concrete information available, I need Cuomo’s measured bullying, his love of circumventing the federal government, his sparring with increasingly incompetent city leadership. Not only that, but the less contact I have with other humans, the more I start to think of Cuomo as my only friend. I’ve started laughing at his little jokes. I catch myself touching my hair (not my face!) when he talks about an increase in testing capacity. I swooned when he told a reporter he had his own workout routine. I have watched a clip of him and brother Chris Cuomo bickering about their mother at least 20 times. I think I have a crush???

Any port in a storm. Some need an anchor in this time of uncertainty.

My daughter has called me more times recently than in the past year. So far the panic has been manageable. My son ... ehh, which is good. He's not panicky.

FWIW, the Truman & Jacobson Haberdashery opened on November 28, 1919, and went out of business in September, 1922.
