"Abbott will be making ID NOW COVID-19 tests available next week and expects to ramp up manufacturing to deliver 50,000 tests per day
- This is the company's second test to receive Emergency Use Authorization by the FDA for COVID-19 detection; combined, Abbott expects to produce about 5 million tests per month"

" positive results in as little as five minutes and negative results in 13 minutes."

Testing will help getting positive people away from others and tracing contacts. I doubt that it will have much effect on the final tallies of this disease in NY and Ca which are probably already only two weeks from their peaks and that is about the incubation time. For states like mine - KY - where it has not yet had much of an impact it could be a game changer.

How America has the world's biggest and fastest growing coronavirus outbreak: New US virus cases- per-day overtake Italy and are higher than China ever admitted

New figures reveal that coronavirus cases and deaths in the United States are outpacing both Italy and China
The US now has more cases of COVID-19 - 92,000 infections - than any other country, as well as 1,300 deaths
Italy has the second highest number of cases at 86,498 and China has the third highest with 81,430
A total of 12 states have already surpassed 1,500 cases each - no area outside Hubei in China reached that
New York's death toll is doubling nearly every 1.5 days compared to the worst-hit region of Italy, Lombardy, which saw a doubling every three days
At the peak of China's outbreak, officials recorded 3,892 new cases compared to the US, which recorded more than 16,000 new cases on March 26
However, some suggest that China has been underreporting the number of cases and deaths
Estimates suggest pandemic will reach all corners of the nation as Trump suggested an Easter lockdown lift

The United States now has the world's biggest and fastest growing coronavirus outbreak with more than 92,000 confirmed cases across the country..

America is now recording more new coronavirus cases per day than anywhere else in the world, although Italy has a higher fatality rate. Italy has recorded the second most total coronavirus cases at 86,498 - 9,134 of them fatal - - and China is in third with 81,340.

And the rate of spread in America - 16,819 new cases yesterday alone - suggests that the peak of the outbreak is still weeks away.

New York City has become the new epicenter of the global pandemic. On Friday, the city recorded 519 deaths, up from 365 deaths on Thursday which is a rate faster than cities such as Madrid and Lombardy, Italy's worst-hit region.

New York alone recorded 6,103 cases on Thursday - just behind Italy, which had 6,203 cases yesterday.

The Big Apple has the fastest growing death rate, with the death toll doubling nearly every 1.5 days. By comparison, Lombardy saw a doubling every three days.

Italy's older population means its fatality rate is 10.19 percent, much higher than America's 1.5 percent fatality rate.

However, the number of cases being recorded every day in America now far exceeds the number of cases that China ever admitted to at the peak of the outbreak despite China's larger population. However there are suspicions that China has been covering up the extent of the coronavirus outbreak from the start.

The higher number of cases per day in America could also be due to the large number of tests being carried out in New York state - which is about 25 percent of all test being performed in the US.

The figures seem to indicate the pandemic will reach all corners of the nation even as President Donald Trump repeated his calls to see the lockdown lifted by Easter Sunday, April 12.

One hospital ship docked in LA this week. The other one will be in New York next week. The ships have more beds than the largest hospitals.

They were originally designed as tankers and were converted in the 1980's. They'll take non-virus patients to relieve that burden from hospitals.

The hospital ships have a 1000 bed capacity, there are many hospitals with more than that...

They will definitely help, but given the vector on this and their deployment to the two largest population centers in the country they will certainly not be some sort of panacea solution as you, (with your relentless happy talk and ignore everything fact that doesn't fit your chosen narrative approach) seem to suggest. They are just one piece of what is needed.
That along with the three drug trial in New York should play a big part in restoring things to normal.
I will be absolutely delighted if any or all of these pan out and pass through clinical trials and into mass production. If it turns out they can help a percentage of those who are sick to recover, they will be saving lives and freeing up bed space and care resources for new patients coming in to replace them when they are discharged. But again, your unqualified assertions not withstanding, clinical trials do not automatically all succeed. And even if this does prove to have sufficient effectiveness to have an impact, it will do nothing to quell the spread of the infection rate, so it won't effect the need to maintain mitigation policies like "social distance".

Ultimately, only a vaccine will accomplish that. Perhaps by the end of May infection rates may be slowed to the point where we can experiment with opening up the ability of more people to return to work, for restaurants to open with restrictions on crowd size, but things will still be far from "normal".

Look, I am very happy to point out good news about this crisis when it's merited. (As I did today)

Hell, I was even willing to extend some praise to Trump for his much more reality-based press conference yesterday...(I pray for the good of the country he will keep it up and stop lying and spreading disinformation to the public. Though given the record I have little hope.)

But right now the objective facts are for the most part negative, and don't merit the rose colored glasses unqualified happy talk that you employ.

Well, it didn't take long for him to hit the reckless and stupid button again:
Trump considering 'enforceable quarantine' for N.Y., parts of N. J. and Connecticut

"I don’t know how that could be legally enforceable,” New York Gov. Cuomo said, adding, “I don’t even like the sound of it.”

WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump said Saturday that he was considering an "enforceable quarantine" in the New York, New Jersey and Connecticut area due to the coronavirus outbreak, saying the decision could come as soon as later in the day.

“Some people would like to see New York quarantined because its a hot spot. New York, New Jersey, maybe one or two other places. Certain parts of Connecticut quarantined,” Trump said as he left the White House en route of Norfolk, Va. to see off the USNS Comfort, a Navy hospital ship that is headed to New York to provide extra hospital space to help fight the outbreak.

"I am thinking about that right now. We might not have to do it but there’s a possibility that sometime today we’ll do a quarantine, short term, two weeks, on New York. Probably New Jersey, certain parts of Connecticut," Trump continued.

Trump said that he had spoken with New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis earlier Saturday morning about the coronavirus and said that the enforceable quarantine would include travel restrictions to limit people from the New York area spreading the virus to other parts of the country.

“Restrict travel because they are having problems down in Florida. A lot of New Yorkers going down, we don’t want that," Trump told reporters.

Some cities and states have already called for residents to shelter in place and it is unclear how a federal mandate would work and how it would be enforced.

"I’d rather not do it, but we may need it,” Trump said.

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo said he talked to Trump Saturday morning and a quarantine was not addressed.

“I didn’t speak to him about any quarantine,” Cuomo said. “I don’t even know what that means.”

"I don’t know how that could be legally enforceable,” Cuomo continued, adding “I don’t even like the sound of it.”
Well, aside from the fact that he has no legal authority to impose anything like this, no mechanisms available to him to enforce it, and no plan for what this would entail and how it would be carried out, it's a splendid idea...

The one and only thing his talking this way will accomplish is to accelerate the exodus people from these areas, (presumably the exact opposite of what he wants) by scaring people into thinking if they don't leave right now they might not be able to leave later... :loon

Jim, It's not a clinical trial in the conventional sense given the quantity of doses that went to New York before March 24th. It's an artillery barrage compared to a BB gun (clinical trial).

" The state acquired 70,000 doses of hydroxychloroquine, 10,000 doses of zithromax and 750,000 doses of chloroquine in the last few days, according to a news release by New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s office.

"We hope for optimistic results," Cuomo said during a press conference Tuesday, talking about the clinical trials. "The president and the FDA accelerated that drug coming to New York so the hospitals will start using that drug today.""

I am sorry Darren if you lose your business. But we should not relax our guard until we see infection rates go way down.
Soon, I’ll post my farewell message. The end is starting to get close. There are many misconceptions about me, and before I go, to live with my ancestors on the steppes, I want to set the record straight.

The Mad King backs down on his nutty state quarantine idea:
Trump backs off quarantine of New York area in favor of 'strong' travel advisory

Facing strong resistance from New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, who said a quarantine would be a "federal declaration of war" on the states, the president said instead he has asked the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to issue a "strong" travel advisory.

"On the recommendation of the White House CoronaVirus Task Force, and upon consultation with the Governor’s [sic] of New York, New Jersey and Connecticut, I have asked the @CDCgov to issue a strong Travel Advisory, to be administered by the Governors, in consultation with the Federal Government. A quarantine will not be necessary," Trump said Saturday evening in a pair of tweets. "Full details will be released by CDC tonight. Thank you!"
https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/politics ... r-BB11QTav

Good news of course that reality managed to pierce through his skull, but it's unfortunate that the top people on the CoronaVirus Task Force had to waste their precious time and energy talking Trump back into the real world, rather spending that time on all the myriad of challenges related to fighting the virus...

Another example of the way in which Trump's behavior itself continues to be a large component of the problems we face with this...

But while the virus does not select for party affiliation, contrasting emergency responses at the state and local levels have split dramatically along partisan lines.

States with Democratic governors have been quicker to declare emergencies, close schools, shutter non-essential businesses and impose limits on bars and restaurants, according to data collected by the Kaiser Foundation. Fifteen of 21 states to have issued stay-at-home orders have Democratic governors.

States with Republican governors, meanwhile, have been less eager to ask businesses to close, and more likely to downplay the threat. “Go to the grocery stores. For crying out loud, go to the grocery stores,” Governor Jim Justice of West Virginia told residents on 16 March. “If you want to go to Bob Evans and eat, go to Bob Evans and eat.”

The night before, Oklahoma’s Governor Kevin Stitt tweeted a picture of himself and his two sons at a restaurant, boasting: “It’s packed tonight.” The tweet was later deleted.

The divergence in state responses to coronavirus does not cleanly split along the red-blue line, with Republican governors in states such as Ohio and Maryland among the most proactive in responding to the threat, said University of Southern California professor Manuel Pastor.

“It’s more like the rational states versus the Trump Republican states,” Pastor said.

Kim Jong-un, Xi Jinping, and Vladimir Putin, would never have this kind of resistance from their people.

Obviously, the Big Grifter lacks the leadership qualities that his idols possess. He must be apoplectic at this point.
