Point taken; just because they were not great presidents doesn't necessarily mean they weren't great (or good or whatever) people. Thanks for clarifying it for me.

Indeed.

Jimmy Carter was an incompetent president but a decent human being.

Your collective inability to acknowledge this obvious truth makes you all look like fools.

I've realized for years that you know fuck all about Mr. Reagan, so I pay absolutely no attention to anything you have to say about him... :nana

I agree Dales, and the converse is also true; from what I have read, LBJ was a bastard, but got some pretty good accomplishments as president.

Impeachment 2.0 is on the way. Forget the pandemic. This is HUGE!

Guess what will be spread across all the media networks in May?

Sunday on MSNBC’s “AM Joy,” House Intelligence Committee chairman Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) said he would investigate what warnings from the intelligence community and health organizations that President Donald Trump ignored in the early stages of the coronavirus pandemic.

On “real-time oversight,” Schiff said, “We are right now going through our intelligence holdings. What did the intelligence community make us aware of at the end of last year or earlier this year? Other committees are doing like analyses.”

So Congress could launch eight investigations in the the death of four people from a terrorist attack in Benghazi, but the deaths of 22,000 (and counting) due to the Trump administration's ineptitude, everyone should forget all about that.

I posted this elsewhere but it fits here:

:loon Darren, are you seriously suggesting that a Executive-branch fustercluck like this is *NOT* something worthy of a Congressional investigation???

No!

The executive branch is already being scrutinized. Whether the assigned individual gets more responsibility to weed out the incompetent or another Hoover like commission is appointed, remains to be seen.

We're already seeing individuals leaving with door knob bruises on their ass.

I expect a more immediate review of who screwed up at the CDC and FDA.

"As the highly infectious coronavirus jumped from China to country after country in January and February, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention lost valuable weeks that could have been used to track its possible spread in the United States because it insisted upon devising its own test.

The federal agency shunned the World Health Organization test guidelines used by other countries and set out to create a more complicated test of its own that could identify a range of similar viruses."

Yes or no, is one of the roles of Congress to provide oversight of the Executive Branch?

Any answer other than "yes" or "no" is an evasion.

It certainly is; both a Congressional investigation and a 9/11 style Independent Commission.

But now as we are in the middle of the crisis, is not the time to launch it, either from a public policy or a smart political viewpoint. I seriously doubt it would go over well with the public, at a time when the full attention of both the Legislative and the Executive need to be focused on dealing with the on going emergency.

Oversight of the stimulus bills yes, but there will be plenty of time in the fall or later (hopefully after the Mad King has been ousted from office, when an investigation by a new Administration would have full access to all the relevant documents and witnesses that Trump and his cronies will stone wall on releasing.)

Let's not forget the info that a intelligence group spotted a medical problem in China last year and supposedly sent out a report that ended up as part of the presidential briefing and also went to Congressional members like Schiff during the impeachment farce.

Get back to me if that's true.

This from ABC. Is ABC a reliable news source, Jim?

" As far back as late November, U.S. intelligence officials were warning that a contagion was sweeping through China’s Wuhan region, changing the patterns of life and business and posing a threat to the population, according to four sources briefed on the secret reporting.

Concerns about what is now known to be the novel coronavirus pandemic were detailed in a November intelligence report by the military's National Center for Medical Intelligence (NCMI), according to two officials familiar with the document’s contents.

The report was the result of analysis of wire and computer intercepts, coupled with satellite images. It raised alarms because an out-of-control disease would pose a serious threat to U.S. forces in Asia -- forces that depend on the NCMI’s work. And it paints a picture of an American government that could have ramped up mitigation and containment efforts far earlier to prepare for a crisis poised to come home." "

"Analysts concluded it could be a cataclysmic event," one of the sources said of the NCMI’s report. "It was then briefed multiple times to" the Defense Intelligence Agency, the Pentagon’s Joint Staff and the White House.
Do you notice who it does not mention as having received briefings on the report? Any Democrats.
