On the other hand Gavin Newsome put together a group of experts who said what had to be accomplished before a relaxation could begin;

Cuomo and Newsome are hitting 'em out of the park. Trump is drooling and trying to decide who to bribe next, who to slap down for telling the truth, who to flatter.

Cuomo said New York was bankrupt. He also thanked Trump for his help.

You think maybe Cuomo is sucking Trump's golf ball though a garden hose?

Thought Leaders/Groups[/size]
...or maybe not?
It Seems These CEOs Are Not Going to Fall for the Trumpian Grift

The evil-or-bungling question is rarely this easily solved. The president*, as we know, is putting together groups of croni...er...business executives to “re-open” the country. (How he’s going to get people to go out and mingle is another question entirely.) The problem seems to be that several of the croni...er...business executives didn’t know they were on the team. From the Washington Post:
But across the business world, there was private unhappiness with how the White House handled the announcement of the advisory council — which it has dubbed its “Great American Economic Revival Industry Groups” — and others warned that Trump’s goal of a May 1 reopening date for much of the country was unrealistic. Many of the chief executives urged the White House to focus more on mass testing, according to several participants on the calls. Public health experts have argued that widespread testing is a key prerequisite to reopening the economy because it would determine who is infected and needs to be isolated, giving Americans greater confidence that they can safely return to work and public life.

One processing plant lit up South Dakota. Smithfield Foods has the marketing problem to end all marketing problems. No CEO wants to preside over the next Smithfield Foods. And if El Caudillo del Mar-a-Lago has his way, there will be Smithfield Foods all over America. Many of the country’s CEOs are vultures, but they’re smart vultures. And they don’t like to be blindsided.

Do you know the Chinese own Smithfield?

I can only hope that the closings of several meat processing plants, and likely further disruption to the meat supply, will give a whole bunch of carnivorous Americans an opportunity to learn to cook and enjoy more meatless dishes - another lifestyle change that would be incredibly beneficial to our environment.

I certainly won't be in that group...

We have a nice selection of sausages, bacon, hamburger meat, salami, ham, little smokies and more available in the fridge and freezer...

So we're well positioned to deal with any short term meat shortages... :ok

Tomorrow I'm making a nice hearty batch of Shepherds Pie...

"(Reuters) - Gilead Sciences Inc’s shares surged 16% in after hours trading on Thursday following a media report detailing encouraging partial data from trials of the U.S. company’s experimental drug remdesivir in severe COVID-19 patients.

A University of Chicago hospital participating in a study of the antiviral medication said it is seeing rapid recoveries in fever and respiratory symptoms, with nearly all patients discharged in less than a week, according to medical news website SThere

Gilead, in an emailed statement, said “the totality of the data need to be analyzed in order to draw any conclusions from the trial.” "

I think anyone with any sense knows it’s not going to be a big whistle goes off and we all run out and resume status quo; the world is changed fundamentally until vaccine, and heck, I hope it’s changed fundamentally forever now that we’ve seen that LABOR CREATES ALL WEALTH.

Here’s the article I read on remdesivir, which sounds like it might be an incredibly useful therapy for covid19 and could make the managing of this virus a bit easier as we encounter the next waves.

She's gotten pretty creative about that...

Between her classes on line, she's been using some of her have-to-stay home time (which she has, unlike many of her generation, fully embraced) to get some recipes that she puts together, becoming quite a decent cook..

Some, despite being meat-free are actually edible..(A couple of nights ago she made some kind of egg-planty thing that was really quite tasty...)

I very highly recommend the cookbook Moosewood Restaurant Cooks at Home, lots of great recipes but especially the Red, gold, black & green chili which I’ve made for many meat eaters who really loved it. You could probably get her a copy used on AbeBooks or Amazon for just a couple dollars. Moosewood Collective is a cornerstone of the vegetarian movement, she’d likely be very interested in learning more about them.

Where do you get your shepherds from, LJ? Kroger is out of them this week. But toilet paper is back, so let's hope it's temporary.

Wasn't it a non-pharmaceutical form of chloroquine used as a fish tank cleaner that killed the idiot and sickened his wife?

AFAIK the current protocol uses hydroxycloroquine which has been around since 1955 for use against malaria and more recently prescribed for lupus and rheumatoid arthritis.

in the '18-19 flu epidemic San Francisco imposed a quarantine and required people to wear masks. They had very low rates of disease. And then dropped the quarantine and mask requirements after 1 month which caused the death rate to explode. Let us learn from history and not from fuck-ass republican ideas.

And which is causing fatal arrhythmias among patients who are being treated with it in trials now underway (some of which have been cancelled as a result), a known adverse effect of the drug which is, of course, more likely to occur in the very patients at greatest risk of complications from COVID-19.
