Seems odd that one of the Democratic presidential wannabes didn't shut down the subway system. Let's go to the study.
" the parallel between the continued high ridership on MTA subways and the rapid, exponential surge in infections during the first two weeks of March supports the hypothesis that the subways played a role. While the subsequent plummeting of ridership appears likewise to parallel the flattening of the reported incidence curve, the steep fall in the heights of the blue bars may just as well represent the public’s response to widespread publicity about the ferocity of the outbreak that had been gathering storm for two weeks."
Conclusive? Maybe, maybe not. Correlation isn't necessarily causation will be a refuge.

Re: What happened in New York?
Why should a Democrat party nominee shut down New York's subways? Nothing to do with them
Same reason Donald Trump didn't shut 'em down - it's nothing to do with him either.

Most governors and lots of mayors by their actions disagree with you.MajGenl.Meade wrote: ↑Mon Apr 20, 2020 12:53 pmWhy should a Democrat party nominee shut down New York's subways? Nothing to do with them

Do you read your stuff? (Good idea by the way). Not governors, not mayors - you specifically wrote "presidential wannabes". That would have been Biden, that old commie, Elizabeth Warren, Ben the Buttman, those persons....

Re: What happened in New York?
If they had shutdown the NYC subway system, they would have seriously interfered with the ability of essential workers (like hospital personnel; tens of thousands of them) to get to work. (And for more thousands of people to get to legitimate medical appointments)
Wasn't a realistic option for New York City...

Good point, Jim!
All I can say is my parents made the right choice when they left the city for WV.
As a native New Yorker who has been there more than a few times, I still bless my parents for their excellent choices in life. Growing up in the hills and hollers with the hicks has given me life skills and an independence of thought I wouldn't have had otherwise.

No, I reckon "Good point Jim" was the refuge.

I recall that among the plethora of COV threads someone posted the parachute remark: just because the parachute has slowed your descent, it's not yet time to ditch it. Wait until you hit the ground. Or words to that effect. Very appropriate.

You should have stopped right there.

Yes, I suppose I could agree with you ... but then we'd both be wrong, wouldn't we?
