"LYNCHBURG, Va. — A judge has ruled that a Virginia gun range must be allowed to open to customers despite a statewide executive order requiring nonessential businesses to close to slow the spread of the coronavirus.

The order issued Monday by Lynchburg Circuit Judge F. Patrick Yeatts says federal and state protections on the right to bear arms outweigh any emergency authority held by Gov. Ralph Northam to order the gun range closed."

I think this one can be overturned on appeal.  A strict reading of the 2nd Amendment says that the right of Americans to bear arms (emphasis mine) shall not be infringed, so tote those shootin' irons around all you want.  It doesn't say anything about being given free and unfettered right to actually USE them.  You might as well say that since the 21st Amendment once again permitted the sale, manufacture, or importation of intoxicating liquors in the US that every American also has the right to consume the same and that the bars should also be allowed to re-open.

And before you say, "Well, what good is a gun if you can't use it?", I'll just respond with "What good is a car (like the Dodge Challenger Hellcat) that has a top speed of 200 mph when there is ab-so-fucking-lutely nowhere in the United States — except on a racetrack or dragstrip — that one can legally drive at those speeds?"  But they still make and sell them.

I saw a report on the news a little while ago that Il Boobce has cancelled today's Coronavirus Task Force briefing, but that he plans to hold a news conference featuring himself anyway...

Which is of course THE EXACT OPPOSITE of what the country needs..  :loon

Less science! More Trump! Yay!

Oh well, if The Mad King wants to create some fresh video for Democratic campaign commercials, who am I to complain?
Trump is suffering from rally withdraw. It's tough not to get depressed when all of a sudden tens of thousands of supplicants don't bow before you and then jump and scream your name on a regular basis,

May be he got a dismal report from the Chinese factory that makes the flags he sells at the doors of the rallies.

I'm wondering if he has hot groupies like the rock stars.

Maybe what's her name has been turning him down and the beauty parlor that handles his hair has been quarantined. Hairy palms don't get it on TV.

Come to think about it, is there a national shortage of Viagra? If not belay the last.

I got stimulated today -- direct deposit.

No letter, no email to congratulate me on having such a wonderful and generous POTUS. I bet our Grifter-in-Chief doesn't even know I exist. Damn.

He should have saved it until after the pandemic when the gloves and masks come off. What a waste!

The restart of the economy has begun.

"New York will start to reopen parts of the state after May 15, while New Jersey will indefinitely extend its stay-at-home orders -- signs of a nuanced start to a process that could take months and fundamentally reshape the way people live and work.

Nearly two months into the region's coronavirus pandemic, New York released new data Monday showing that nearly 15 percent of those tested had antibodies to the virus -- suggesting as many as 2.9 million New Yorkers may have been infected at some point, fully 10 times what the state has reported officially."

Texas is at the starting gate.

"The governor announced his plan to reopen the state in a press conference on Monday.

Since March, he says he has started putting steps in place to control the spread of COVID-19 by sheltering in place and restricting travel into the state. The executive order for the stay-at-home order will expire as scheduled on April 30."

I guess the show me state seen for itself.

"COLUMBIA — Governor Mike Parson announced Monday that all businesses can reopen starting Monday, May 4th as long as they follow certain guidelines.

During phase one of the plan, a news release said: "citizens may begin returning to economic and social activities but must adhere to social distancing requirements, including maintaining six feet of space between individuals in most cases."

There are currently no limitations on social gatherings. However, the state's order on social distancing still stands."

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. —

Many New Mexicans may be immune to COVID-19 or have the anti-bodies, and in just days there will be a new test to prove that.

"The antibody test is a test that determines whether you've ever been exposed to the virus," said Dr. Richard Larson, executive vice chancellor of the UNM Health Sciences Center. "As you know most people with this infection don't have symptoms or are only mildly symptomatic."

Doctors at the University of New Mexico Hospital said the new anti-body test is going to be able to tell us how many people may have had the virus without symptoms and possibly immunity to it.

"It's no known yet how many people or if you have the antibody, you'll be immune, but by knowing who has the antibody we'll be able to begin to study exactly how many people who've been exposed to the disease will be immune in the future to the disease," Larson said.

Based off of testing results in other states, Larson said it's going to show us that thousands more New Mexicans were exposed to COVID-19 than what was reported.

TUCSON - The University of Arizona will start analyzing blood samples from hundreds of thousands of Arizonans to determine who has been exposed to the COVID-19 virus.

The program rolls out this week, with six different testing locations in Pima County. They plan to first test 3,000 front line health care workers along with 1,500 people from the general public with 500 of them being students.

Later in May, the University of Arizona will then work to test 250,000 people thanks to $3.5 million in funding from the state of Arizona.

I’ve worked the coronavirus front line — and I say it’s time to start opening up
By Daniel G. Murphy April 27, 2020 | 7:02pm

I’m an emergency physician at St. Barnabas Hospital in The Bronx. I have been in the ER every day these last few weeks, either supervising or providing direct care. I contracted a COVID-19 infection very early in the outbreak, as did two of my daughters, one of whom is a nurse. We are all well, thank God.

COVID-19 has been the worst health-care disaster of my 30-year career, because of its intensity, duration and potential for lasting impact. The lasting impact is what worries me the most. And it’s why I now believe we should end the lockdown and rapidly get back to work.

From mid-March through mid-April, the ER staff at St. Barnabas huddled in groups of about 20 every morning. We asked ourselves what had happened over the previous shift. We generated a list of actionable tasks for the following 24 hours. At first, we addressed personal protective equipment and the management of patients with mild illness who were seeking COVID-19 tests.

Then came the wave of critically ill patients in numbers none of us had ever seen. This lasted for two weeks. The number of patients on ventilators accumulated in the ER and throughout the hospital. We witnessed an unprecedented number of deaths. The tone of the huddles became more somber. We became accustomed to the morbidity; we did our jobs.

It is precisely what I have witnessed that now tells me that it’s time to ease the lockdown. Here’s why.

First, the wave has crested. At 1 p.m. on April 7, the COVID-19 arrivals slowed down. It was a discrete, noticeable event. Stretchers became available by 5 p.m., and the number of arriving COVID-19 patients dropped below the number discharged, transferred or deceased.

This was striking, because the community I serve is poor. Some are homeless. Most work in “essential,” low-paying jobs, where distancing isn’t easy. Nevertheless, the wave passed over us, peaked and subsided. The way this transpired tells me the ebb and flow had more to do with the natural course of the outbreak than it did with the lockdown.

Second, I worry about non-coronavirus care. While the inpatient units remain busy with sick COVID-19 patients, our ER has been quiet for more than a week. We usually average 240 patients a day. For the last week, we averaged fewer than 100. That means our patients in this diverse, low-income community are afraid to come to the ER for non-COVID care.

Gotham-wide, the number of 911 ambulance runs declined to 3,320 on April 18, down from a peak of 6,527 on March 30, according to New York Fire Department data. The current nadir is significantly below the average.

A large share of those staying home surely have emergency medical and surgical conditions not related to the novel coronavirus. The growing numbers dying at home during this crisis must include fatal myocardial infarctions, asthma exacerbations, bacterial infections and strokes.

Meanwhile, our pediatric volume in the ER has practically disappeared. Visits to primary-care pediatricians are also down, with vaccine schedules falling behind. Everyone seems to be avoiding the health system — an important and unfortunate consequence of the stay-at-home strategy.

Third, inordinate fear misguides the public response. While COVID-19 is serious, fear of it is being over-amplified. The public needs to understand that the vast majority of infected people do quite well.

Finally, COVID-19 is more prevalent than we think. Many New Yorkers already have the COVID-19 infection, whether they are aware of it or not. As of today, over 43 percent of those tested are positive in The Bronx. We are developing a significant degree of natural herd immunity. Distancing works, but I am skeptical that it is playing as predominant a role as many think.

More testing will better establish the numbers among those with mild illnesses and no symptoms. My professional experience tells me the number of infected people will be high. Testing is important work, but it should happen in parallel to the immediate resuscitation of the economy and getting people back to work.

At present, the testing is imperfect. We can’t wait months. We must protect the vulnerable and mitigate without destroying the economy.

Standing up to this virus can’t be the job of essential workers only. We’ve been strong, but we’re tired, and we need the rest of you to help us. By getting back to work.

Daniel G. Murphy, MD, is chairman of the Department of Emergency Medicine at St. Barnabas Hospital in The Bronx.

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - A prominent E.R. doctor in New York City has reportedly committed suicide in Virginia.

Dr. Lorna Breen treated many coronavirus patients, as the medical director of NewYork-Presbyterian Allen Hospital's emergency department, according to reports by the New York Daily News .

Charlottesville Police Department Chief RaShall Brackney said in a news release: ”Frontline healthcare professionals and first responders are not immune to the mental or physical effects of the current pandemic...On a daily basis, these professionals operate under the most stressful of circumstances, and the Coronavirus has introduced additional stressors."

The police department confirmed that Dr. Breen, a New York resident, "was taken to UVA Hospital for treatment where she later succumbed to self-inflicted injuries" after a call for help on April 26.

"The Charlottesville Police Department extends heartfelt condolences to the friends and family of Dr. Breen during this difficult time," according to the release.

Police Chief Brackney also wrote: "Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) can reduce the likelihood of being infected, but what they cannot protect heroes like Dr. Lorna Breen, or our first responders against is the emotional and mental devastation caused by this disease."

Suicides due to the virus? That can't be! Who would think that suicide hotlines and a spike in suicides could be attributed to the pandemic and the lockdown? Better safe than sorry. Let's lockdown for a couple of months more ... just to be safe.

Another bogus call by epidemiologists and their faulty models.

Bring out the hospital ships. We need thousands of ventilators. Set up the temporary hospitals or else cats will be cohabitating with dogs.

"Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo said Friday she will close the pop-up medical shelter erected earlier this month at NRG Park, a venture that cost millions of dollars and was set up in case COVID-19 cases surged past existing hospital capacity.

That has not happened, and Hidalgo said health officials now have determined the area’s hospitals can withstand the caseload."

I couldn’t c/p for whatever reason, but this suicide story was also heartbreaking - a young man just 3 months into his career as an EMT, in one of the busiest 911 call areas of NYC has taken his life with his father’s former (NYPD) service weapon.

https://www.google.com/amp/s/nypost.com ... s-dad/amp/

I said early on that the PTSD would take a toll on the healthcare workers; I’m sure these are just the tip of an iceberg, as physicians already had a very high suicide rate relative to the general population and the additional stress of a high mortality event like this pandemic will doubtless drive those numbers higher.

Opening the economy won’t stop the deaths or the suicides related to the stress of living through a pandemic. I know you seem to think that opening the economy will get everything back to normal, but you’re stupid or naive to think that - normal isn’t coming back. We are going to see a million Americans die of a lethal virus over the next two years and because the only way to be safe from the virus is to stay home and get close to nobody, fear and depression will overwhelm many people.

It’s tiresome as fuck reading your moronic posts over and over pretending what is happening isn’t happening. You are Trump.
