‘White House’ Gift Shop Selling $100 COVID-19 Commemorative Coins As Death Toll Hits 61K
The White House Gift Shop is selling $100 COVID-19 commemorative coins, emblazoned with slogans like “World vs The Unseen Enemy” and “Everyday HEROES Suited Up.”
The COVID-19 coin, which features the names of President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence, depicts an empty presidential podium on one side, and a graphic of the novel coronavirus above the world on the other side.
The coin also features the names of Secretary of the Treasury Steve Mnuchin, Surgeon General Dr. Jerome Adams, Coronavirus Response Coordinator Dr. Deborah Birx, and Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases Dr. Anthony Fauci.
The coins are the eleventh in a “historic moment art series” that includes coins celebrating Trump’s meetings with North Korea’s Kim Jong Un and Russian President Vladimir Putin and another titled, “President Donald J. Trump: A Study in Genius.”
The privately-run White House store was established in 1946 by President Truman.
The coin has sparked fierce backlash amid a deadly pandemic that has claimed over 61,000 lives.
“If the White House Gift Shop is going to produce $100 COVID-19 coins, Trump can sure as hell utilize the Defense Production Act to manufacture the gloves, gowns, and masks our medical workers desperately need,” Sen. Bernie Sanders tweeted on Wednesday.

"A Study in Genius"??The coins are the eleventh in a “historic moment art series” that includes coins celebrating Trump’s meetings with North Korea’s Kim Jong Un and Russian President Vladimir Putin and another titled, “President Donald J. Trump: A Study in Genius.”

And I suppose a more pointed (and potentially embarrassing) question might be: If this is the 11th in a series, and at a hundred bucks a pop, where does all the money go?

Yes, I suppose I could agree with you ... but then we'd both be wrong, wouldn't we?

More Trump tchotchkes.

I opened my stimulus check - no signature or letter from Dump.

Why di we need a privately run White House Store, especially one that has been around since Truman? Isn't the other telemarketing crap (like the 2020 election chess set) enough?

I truly though this was a photoshop joke. No: they are there all right on the Whitehousegiftshop.com site. Steve Mnuchin is one of the everyday heroes although I love how they don't bother to spell his name correctly in the puff about the coin. And, clearly, punctuation costs extra.
Fun fact: we watched the movie Jersey Boys last night about the Four Seasons and Frankie Valli. Actually I quite enjoyed it, until they ran the credits and I saw that one of the exec producers was S Mnuchin. Spoiled it for me.

Mostly False
The website WhiteHouseGiftShop.com is selling coronavirus commemorative coins.
What's False
WhiteHouseGiftShop.com is not the official gift shop of the White House, and these commemorative coins were not officially sanctioned by the United States government.

You can’t believe that Snopes has a well known liberal bias.
Okay... There's all kinds of things wrong with what you just said.
Re: I'll have to order mine quickly before they sell out
It says, right in the article, "the privately-run White House Store". It never purports that it is officially attached to the White House. The headline even puts "White House" in quotes.

I just don't see the "liberal bias".

Given that definition it makes a lot of sense; that is why Snopes exists.

Fairly simple, really.
