To kick off the thread as promised:

If you think the pandemic was scary just wait until the next mass extinction. While silly mankind parades their egotistic ideas of climate change, Mother Nature doesn't give a shit.

Darren - you're not a dumb guy; you write well (mostly) and I think you really believe what you say. But what do you think are the 'egotistical' ideas of climate change?

I will list some facts below. Tell me where you start to disbelieve.

(a) Gaseous carbon dioxide (CO2) in the atmosphere absorbs infrared (IR) radiation.
(b) The concentration of CO2 in the atmosphere has risen from around 250 ppm in the mid C19 to over 400 ppm now. Most of that increase is from burning fossil fuels.
(c) Heat released from the earth is in IR form. Incoming UV hits something - a brick, a desert, the sea, a person - and heats that something up. That something gets rid of the heat by (among other things) emitting it as IR.
(d) Slowing the release of IR heat is just the same as when you pull another blanket on. CO2 blanket insulation has been around the same for the last million years or so and has not been this high since around 15 million years ago.
(e) If we pull another blanket on, we'll overheat.

I've been using various types of instrument to measure CO2 for the last fifty years or so. Infra-red (specifically non-dispersive IR) is the best way to go about it. Trust me, please: this is not a Chinese hoax.
