Apparently, we're number 4 in eggplant production (after Georgia, Florida and California), at least as of 2001. http://www.agmrc.org/commodities__produ ... rofile.cfm I never would have guessed. Pretty amazing for such a small and highly urbanized state. For asparagus, California evidently accounts for 75% of domestic production, but I rarely see California product here; we always have plenty of "Jersey Fresh" asparagus in farmstands and grocery stores around here starting late in March. It seems Peru is the top asparagus producer in the world, and I must admit they turn out a consistently good product; it's what we usually have the rest of the year.

As far as gas prices go, I thought we had already learned that they have very little to do with actual supply or production costs and almost everything to do with commodities speculation. When commodities traders start losing their shirts on overstocked crude, you'll see prices fall back. But it will never again be cheap.

Just curious - how many miles per month do most of you folks drive?

I presently live 2 miles from my work. When I relocate back to my own house at the end of the month (after renovations are complete), I'll be back to living 4 blocks from work - and will be walking most of the time, when weather permits.

I use my vehicle to go grocery shopping, to go out to eat in the evenings, attend an event or visit a friend. I fill up once a month, at most. An occasional roadtrip is where I incur my largest fuel expenditures; on average I spend $450/year for fuel, even at these prices.

One of the reasons I adore small-town life.

<15 miles one way to work

My last job was 1.5 miles to and 2.5 miles back home. It was on the service road of the expressway and I had to go west and then cross over and come back east in order to come home. Then I used to come home for lunch to play with the dog and let him outside it was twice that. So that was about 8 iles a day.

Now I'm running around the island going to AA meetings. Also, I pick up a few guys from the sober house and take them with me to the meetings, so my milage last week was around 250 miles for the 7 days.

With gas pushing $4 a gallon, whatever/wherever my new job is I'll be using my motorcycle.
Can't beat 55-65 mpg

I don't drive many miles, but this time of year, I do end up using up some gas in the 'warming up the vehicle' process. Can't start up at -40 and just get going.

80mi RT x 5 days = 400wk

400wk/2 (I currently have 1 carpool partner) = 200mi week

200mi week @ 26mi/gallon and $4.00/gallon is = $30.77 /wk

x 52 = $1,600 yr

I commute 400 miles/week...Liz does about the same in the opposite direction. Total, I do about 25-28K/year.

I travel 30 miles a day when I'm in the office, but last month I did over 2000 miles as I had a number of customer visits and a couple of training courses.

My daily round trip to work is 100 ks and that's if I am going straight there and straight home. Because it's then a minimum 60k round trip even to go to the supermarket I'll average about 600ks per week.

I'm 17 k from work each way, it's a motorbike trip whenever possible. Hen's about a 5 k each way trip, she uses public transport whenever possible, mainly due to the high cost of parking in the city. ($7-$10 a day)

In the U.S., gasoline is averaging $3.50 a gallon.

In the UK 140p litre =546p per gallon = $8.787 US a gallon.

In Aus $1.34 litre = $5.22 gallon = $5.29 US a gallon.

Heard the ACC today were investigating the milk price...fuck the milk and look at petrol ya cunts....am trying to find a car thats run on milk currently!
