BB, BSG is a lawyer. As such just think of these forums as her court of law.
She'll argue til blue-in-the-face to make a cogent, maybe over-passionate, point and then, win or lose, she'll go to the local tavern to have drinks and share the days proceedings with her opposition.
And come back the next day to fight again.

Um, to a certain degree that’s true. But I won’t break bread or share drinks with folks who deal in personal attacks or hold truly répugnant ideals. There were some opposing counsel I only ever spoke to because the interests of justice demanded it.RayThom wrote: ↑Sun Jun 07, 2020 7:39 pmBB, BSG is a lawyer. When I spent a few years as an elected official, I was forced to smile nicely and chew my tongue in the face of some incredibly awful people - in order to get my constituents’ work done, not because of the prospect of winning votes. In fact, for a long time I operated under the assumption that I’d have the job as long as I wanted it because nobody else had expressed any interest in running for the office for years. So, the tongue chewing and smiling with only my mouth was *only* to serve my constituents by facilitating the work, rather than wasting time trying to educate racists and idiots. When the time came that somebody else filed to run against me, I pretty much immediately decided not to run for re-election because I couldn’t in honesty argue to voters that I really wanted the job anymore - and my soul leapt with joy at the prospect of being free of the racists and idiots and all that tongue-chewing.
I’m not sure exactly what nasty things BB said about me this time, but since I can guess from your comments, here’s my position on being here at Plan B: This is a place where some people whose intelligence and humor I admire like to meet up to discuss issues and play games and share jokes and such. At present and for all the time I’ve been a member here, the list of people whose contributions I value is longer than the list of those I don’t.
It used to not bother me so much to deal with the racists and idiots, to wade through the weeds to get to the flowers - but my life is getting shorter by the minute and after getting to menopause I’ve experienced something that a great many other women also experience in later life: a real clarity of purpose and a newfound sense of liberation, to shake off the lifetime of people pleasing training and to say exactly what I want and no longer simper and smile and play nice when the mean boys and girls stuck at middle school level of emotional maturity start doing their thing. I’ve just no more time or energy left for toxic games or people, especially not in a place where I spend my leisure time. And just like everyone else in this life, I get to decide for myself what’s toxic to me.
It’s just that simple. Nobody here is owed my attention. I can’t demand anybody here pay attention to me, either - I never would. Quite frankly, I’d be perfectly happy to be ignored by some of you, rather than the following and butt sniffing, quoting me and posting after me trying to compel me to read you and provoke a reaction because you’re really that fucking immature. I’m sorry if you wish I’d just go away - but feel free, please, to use that handy foe function and live in a world free of BSG.

This article made me emotional - my eyes leaked. I hope this movement continues until governments are forced to respond with real policy changes and legislative reforms.

My eyes well up with tears as I see this.
The pain, the anguish, the humiliation. No human being deserves this kind of treatment. I hope this victim went on to live a better life than depicted.
Stop the violence, now.

Re: George Floyd
Wouldn't necessarily call it "following you around." I read just about everything on this board, no matter who — you, Jarl, Gob, liberty, or even wesw — posts it. You see, unlike some people, I recognize that not everybody is going to agree on every last little thing, and I'd rather read someone's words on the matter than ignore them completely ... because when you ignore someone or something, you do so at your own peril. In fact, that's the latest refrain you've been bleating here, over and over again — that we over-privileged whites have been ignoring the poor, downtrodden POC/immigrants/women/whatever, and that because of that indifference we are now reaping what you, anyway, think we deserve.
Not to mention that something someone else posts may cause me to take a look at a topic or issue from another angle and perhaps modify my original stance on the subject. Look at how I've backed down from being such a staunch supporter of Lance Armstrong, for example. Like the NFL referee says when they reverse a call, "After further review.... ," I acknowledge that he did dope and is/was a cheater, although I still think the punishment — loss of all his palmarès AS WELL AS total banishment from the sport in any way, shape, or form — was excessive, especially when one considers that NO ONE has ever been elevated to the position of "winner" of the Tours de France held between 1999 and 2005 and the top spot in these seven events remains vacant to this day. To me, anyway, this is an unspoken acknowledgement that the entire field was 'dirty' and one would probably have to come all the way down to a cyclist of my caliber to find someone who wasn't on some sort of performance-enhancing substance.
And if you really think that I believe you when you say that you're not reading me, then you had better think again. The fact that your response was posted less than an hour-and-a-half after I posted would seem to belie that statement.

Yes, I suppose I could agree with you ... but then we'd both be wrong, wouldn't we?

More bullshit then, show evidence of my "pointing fingers while pretending you are blameless yourself." please?
So you'll have no bother finding evidence of my doing this. (Here's a hint, being black doesn't prevent you from being bad, it's racist of you to think otherwise.)Nobody who has paid attention to your habit of regularly denigrating people of color in your post topics knows you’re not.
yadda yadda yadda...This dishonesty in mischaracterizing my posts is highly distasteful. Your recent habit of personally attacking me - probably because I made the point a few years ago about your xenophobic and racist posts - is also distasteful. Hard to believe now that I once held you in esteem - but that was many years and many racist and sexist posts (by you) ago.
Avoid dealing with the truth, and backing up any of your accusations if you must.Since I’m making a practice of removing toxic people from my circle, I’m going to go ahead and put you on ignore.
Well, dear, if you had any courage of your convictions you'd not need me to delete your account, not for any of the countless number of times you've left never to return... The reason I didn't do it, and blocked your email address, was you need this place far more than it needs you.Why don’t you do the same, Gob? As you recall, I recently asked you daily for at least a week to cancel my account - you refused to reply or comply with my request.
You act like a silly histrionic woman, (you're not denying being a woman are you?,) then I will treat you like one. The same way as I treat any fucking oaf who acts up. See wesw ad nauseum. If you kept me here to be your punching bag, that’s twisted. If you think I’m a silly woman (and I note that you brought my sex into it, you couldn’t just argue with my perspective without denigrating me in highly sexist terms), then just stop reading or replying to what I bring here.
Oh dear... Mind you, it now means you can provide evidence of these "racist" posts.eta: Ah, I’m stuck seeing your racist sexist posts because you’re an admin, and I’m not allowed to put you on ignore. What joy!

Kudos to these largely elderly Democrats for taking a knee for 8:46 in remembrance of George Floyd before unveiling police reform legislation.

This is how Floyd's murder was first reported by the police:

If the ability to record video and distribute it worldwide did not exist, this would have been "the official story" and George Floyd's death would have gone completely unremarked.

That’s why I think bodycams are not the solution, at least not unless they automatically upload to a secure server in the cloud accessible to a civilian citizen review board. Otherwise what happens when the person killed or profoundly injured has no family or other parties to step in, obtain a lawyer and demand the body cam footage to see if the truth is being told?
Because police lie all the time. I learned this firsthand working on THEIR team and it really pains me to know this. Like, soul-crushing life-altering pain. I take no joy in owning this mindset.
I’m still a fan of reducing the number of cops and replacing those positions with trained civilian ride-alongs, camera in hand, authorized to intervene when they see cops going into rage mode and using force excessively.

They should upload to the cloud and to a sealed harddrive in the car. Harddrive should be downloaded after every shift-full chain of custody, never accessed by fewer than 2 people (always one from IA). It should be physically sealed, and contain either a dye pack or half a pound of C4 that will activate in the event of tampering.BoSoxGal wrote: ↑Tue Jun 09, 2020 6:25 pmThat’s why I think bodycams are not the solution, at least not unless they automatically upload to a secure server in the cloud accessible to a civilian citizen review board. I think a few years in prison (plus restitution, of course) for Chauvin for avoiding evading tax on $460,000 income would be appropriate. Course he'd have to be in solitary all that time or he might find an occasional knee on his neck.
