I went to a Montreal Alouettes game in 1960-ish. I remember Cookie Gilchrist was on the field so it must have been the Toronto Argonauts. "Lookie lookie, there goes Cookie!"
Canadian Football League* just announced they are cancelling the season.
* I know, none of you have heard of it and even fewer of you care.
Just a pale imitation of the real thing.
Sort of the same way NASL soccer was a pale imitation of the real thing ... although it is getting better. -"BB"-
Yes, I suppose I could agree with you ... but then we'd both be wrong, wouldn't we?
England's Crawley and Sibley make hay as sun shines on drawn second Test
Pakistan 236 all out; England 110 for four declared
Match ends in draw after five rain-affected days

It can be tricky playing in a dead situation, not to mention an empty stadium, but both sides made a reasonable fist of it when the sun finally deigned to make an appearance as England and Pakistan played out their second Test draw in Southampton.
Play began at 3.20pm, too late for any fancy declarations and the promise of leather jackets – though the state of the match was not much different to the game at Centurion 20 years ago when the blameless Nasser Hussain and the culpable Hansie Cronje were in charge of England and South Africa.
The modest beneficiaries at the Ageas Bowl were the young English batsmen who are still exploring the delights of Test cricket. The presence of the sun removed some of the demons and Azhar Ali did not wish his trio of pacemen to expend too much energy; they should have a lot of work to do when the final Test of the summer begins on Friday. Even so, Mohammad Abbas bowled beautifully again while adding two more wickets to his Test tally. Hopefully, the sun will still remember the location come Friday.
Dominic Sibley and Zak Crawley gained some more experience

"My neighbor checked out a month ago. Lost his business, his life savings, his house...and his life"
Mr. Dale, I do not understand your virtual shout at the end of your posts to reopen the damn country! What is your expectation, if your demand is met, say tomorrow? Do you wish to see more neighbors who lose their lives?
My neighbor checked out a month ago. Lost his business, his life savings, his house...and his life.
I’m so sorry, that’s just awful. The suicide rate is definitely up, as is to be expected in really devastating times where people’s lives are blowing up in all kinds of ways. Mental health issues are exploding in the population.
I find myself white knuckling on the worst mental health days and sometimes wondering if I’ll get to the other side; my life was already made small by autoimmune disease, but there was much comfort in the rest of the world’s being SNAFU in the predictable ways. Now it’s like living in a kind of dystopia.
I think the next decade is going to be hard to live through and bear witness to, and it’s my 50s an already challenging time so no guarantees - but I’m sure grateful I rescued the border collie who owns me as she’s my reason for plodding onward. Making joy for her makes better health for me.
I hope you know enough to reach out and talk when you need to.
For me, it is far better to grasp the Universe as it really is than to persist in delusion, however satisfying and reassuring.

snailgate.
Me thinks you have me confused with Jarl.
I certainly don't want to "reopen the damn country" with thousands of Americans dying on a daily basis.
Your collective inability to acknowledge this obvious truth makes you all look like fools.

As of yesterday, I know seven people who have checked out since May. Five suicide, one OD, one who couldn't get a medical problem treated. All the suicides were facing financial ruin due to the shutdown. (One blew his brains out the day GenCon was officially cancelled.)
