Star Trek Lower Decks

Post by TPFKA@W »

Anyone else watch this? I only got a bit through the first episode and could go no further in wasting time on such slop. I am disgusted that they put the Star Trek brand on such a steaming pile. Anyone of dissenting opinion?

The very fact it has the Star Trek brand on it means I would rather go mow the lawn in the rain than watch it.

I think it needs to be accepted for what it is: Star Trek taking a poke at its own earnestness and self-importance and having a laugh at its own expense. I see it taking inspiration not only from the eponymous TNG episode, but also from episodes like "Hollow Pursuits" and others where the senior staff are seen through the eyes of junior officers, or where characters get called out for taking themselves too seriously.

It's trying to walk a line between reverence for and satirization of the original. Not sure that it always hits the mark, but it has its moments. I'm not usually a fan of animated series as a a genre, but I'm not writing this one off just yet.

Well my husband has a high tolerance for things I would write off as dreck and nonsense, but he too said, "Please turn that crap off".

I’m a fan of Simpsons and South Park, but in general I steer clear of animated series. I’m probably missing some good stuff, but I’ve met with lots of disappointment so I’m averse.

If you are looking for some laughs at the expense of Star Trek/Star Wars excesses, check out The Oroville.

I believe it is showing on Hulu after starting out as a Fox tv show.

My husband loved that show. I tolerated it for his sake. :D
