Funniest things I've seen in years!!
"Hell yeah, we've taken the White House!"
"Wadda we do now?"!

I must admit I'd never heard of the National Association of Manufacturers. I bet they're all commies.

Re: Insurrectionists have breached the Capitol
What is so profoundly sad about this is that the Capitol will never be the same again after this. A year from now it will be a fortified, armed garrison as we overreact along our usual pattern in response to terrorism. Tourists will visit these buildings again post-pandemic, but the atmosphere of DC which has diminished every year post-911 will have diminished even more.

Ah like London after the bus bomb? I wonder if the Inns of Court are still barricaded to the wandering pedestrian and if St Bride's is open all day.

And of course legitimate, non-violent protest will be met with indiscriminate, overwhelming force. Because police who embarrass themselves by being caught off guard, as they were yesterday, will always respond by overcompensating the next time around.

I’ve never even visited London so I have no idea if this comment is facetious or what.MajGenl.Meade wrote: ↑Thu Jan 07, 2021 1:11 pmAh like London after the bus bomb? I wonder if the Inns of Court are still barricaded to the wandering pedestrian and if St Bride's is open all day.
I first visited DC as an 8 year old in 1979 and then lived there for 3 years in the late 90s while attending Georgetown Law in my late 20s. I lived in a row house on the first block of 6th Street SE, six blocks east of the Supreme Court and Capitol building, and every day I walked to and from school and walked my dog on the grounds of the Capitol and at that time it was very accessible to citizens, I don’t recall even any jersey barriers in those days. Same with the White House - yes security to screen visitors and the fence around the grounds, but nothing like the barriers and blockades and fortress feeling of today. Washington DC post-911 is a very, very different place and after 1/6/21 it will only get worse. The last time I visited and walked around the city it made me so sad.
To my mind this is a serious decline. I understand the need to secure the ‘leaders’ and the public servants who work in these places, and clearly violence is a very real threat in our world and much of it is present within, it is not just a problem of potential attack by foreign terrorists. Nevertheless it is all evidence of a sad decline in the quality of our way of life.
I don’t know how we fix it - I suspect that addressing the despicable inequality of economic prosperity in our society would go a long way toward creating conditions in which civil debate over all our other problems can again thrive - but we’d better figure it out and fix it soon or our country is going to unravel. We cannot keep this Republic if we keep on our present path.

Not facetious. In my five years living in London working for the Post Office Overseas Telegraph Service, known less formally as POOTS (and long gone), it was my good fortune to be able to wander the Inns of Court, looking at the circular Templar church and then walk on to St Bride's, one of Wren's masterpieces. Wonderful crypt.
In later years, many of them, I wanted to take Margaretta for the same wander, so well had I talked it up. No entry signs and barriers everywhere; an alternative way to St Bride's only to find it closed securely where once it stood open, rather lonely but welcoming during a work week.
When these things happen, the bastards win. Something. A little. By taking away and never by adding.

Re: Insurrectionists have breached the Capitol
It's ironic that a week or so ago they were discussing the possibility of Iran mounting some sort of attack on Jan 6 to commemorate the killing of General Suliemani a year ago. Iran would choose (so the story goes) this day because it is theoretically a date very important to the US notion of democracy.
Re: Insurrectionists have breached the Capitol
Watching and reading some of the coverage this morning. People from the mob keep using the word "patriots". I don't think it means what they think it means.
Re: Insurrectionists have breached the Capitol
Iran’s statement on the Capitol siege was to remark on the fragility of western democracy and the dangers posed by sick leaders.

The National Association of Manufacturers shows up regularly as amicus curiae in major products liability cases -- on the side of corporate defendants seeking to avoid responsibility for defective products that have injured and killed consumers. They are not exactly a bunch of wild-eyed liberals, and regularly align with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. That they are explicitly calling for Pence to invoke the 25th Amendment should tell you something about how the solidly Republican "captains of industry" view this Administration.ex-khobar Andy wrote: ↑Thu Jan 07, 2021 12:23 pmI must admit I'd never heard of the National Association of Manufacturers. And seriously, Trump needs to be removed from office YESTERDAY. There is no excuse for delaying another day. His lame-ass middle-of-the-night promise to be a good boy -- still full of lies about a "stolen" election -- is patently insufficient. He needs to be gone NOW, and facing criminal indictment in two weeks.

Also, what is up with the dude in the bison(?) headgear? What is this get-up supposed to mean?
GAH!
Re: Insurrectionists have breached the Capitol
From what I heard last night, all it would take for removal is a majority of the cabinet and VP; if Trump objected, to would be referred to Congress which would have 21 days to act; the members of either house could just sit on their hands (as both Houses need a 2/3 majority to remove) until the inauguration, after which no vote would be necessary. I'm not particularly happy that the cabinet and VP could pretty much remove an elected president unilaterally, but applying that law here would make sense. Of course, the first act of Pence would be to pardon Trump and the Trumpettes for any and all crimes, but we do have to be pragmatic and minimize the damage.
Re: Insurrectionists have breached the Capitol
If this was a riot, it was a strange riot. There were no burning buildings and the only people killed were protesters, one was an unarmed white woman murdered by a cop. But she was white, so that must be ok. While during the recent BLM riots, property owners are being charged with murder for protecting their property. Why is it that when the left occupies a building it is a protest, but when the right does it, and I don’t all these people are rightwing some could be moderates, it becomes a riot? It is this kind of double standard that produces resentment, hatred, and revolution.
It is bullshit to call the capital building sacred. It is not a temple, but just a factory for the making of laws and the lawmakers are not gods but just workers. There is nothing sacred in this so-called country; Liberals can piss and shit on the American flag and drag it down the street and did.

I expected to be placed in an air force combat position such as security police, forward air control, pararescue or E.O.D. I would have liked dog handler. I had heard about the dog Nemo and was highly impressed. “SFB” is sad I didn’t end up in E.O.D.
Re: Insurrectionists have breached the Capitol
Are you really serious Liberty? It wasn't a riot? Windows were smashed; bombs (or at least flash bangs) went off, doors were broken down , files and other things were ransacked, trash strewn throughout building. Not to mention that this was a building to which access was severely restiircted which was attacked by a crowd. I'll agree that there was no fire so far as I know, but you seriously think it was not a riot? I didn' think you could surprise me, but you did.

Many people are wondering where Trump was and what he was doing while the riot/insurrection was taking place. I found an exclusive video of him performing the Qanon Shaman Stop the Steal dance but it's unclear where he was located at the time...

In all seriousness, leaks from White House staff are confirming my theory that he was watching and orgasming in the Oval Office.
