Kristallnacht...and the Sword of Conan

Too bad we can't send a Cyberdyne Systems Model 101 Terminator back to 1945 to cut off Fred Trump's balls.

Edit: the video is now up on YouTube, so I replaced the link with the embedded video.

(BTW...is it possible on this site to somehow embed a video that's
NOT on YouTube?)

Good gravy Marie, why would I ignore you? I promise that I am normally religiously devoted to your every word. It must be all the nose blowing that has caused the oversight. Accept my humblest apologies.

Isn’t it strange that not once since the violent and deadly terrorist incursion of the US Capitol building have we had a press conference held by any law enforcement agency addressing what happened or how anything like it will be prevented from happening on January 20?

As a mob of his supporters stormed the US Capitol on Wednesday, Donald Trump was reportedly unconcerned about the destruction or insurrection taking place but instead how the violent extremists appeared “low-class”.

The president’s ardent loyalists breached security measures and clashed with police, injuring at least 14 people and killing one officer, in the wake of Mr Trump’s fiery speech filled with falsities about the 2020 election.

Mr Trump had called on the audience, which had gathered in DC from across America, to march to the Capitol building as Congress convened to certify the results of his electoral defeat to President-elect Joe Biden.

What followed was a violent and historic scene: QAnon conspiracy theorists dressed in furs, domestic terrorists waving confederate flags, and hundreds of men and women in Trump campaign gear ransacking lawmakers’ offices. Some took the Senate dais and echoed the president’s false claims of voter fraud.

Mr Trump was apparently turned off by the chaotic scene, although not due to the assault on the US government but according to New York Magazine, because his supporters looked “low-class”.

“He doesn’t like low class things,”
an anonymous White House source told the magazine.

Other reports indicated the president’s disapproval of his supporters’ appearances while attacking the Capitol, rather than focusing on how to end the disorder.

The Washington Post cited sources who said Mr Trump was more upset about how the mob looked “low-class” than how it was disrupting the work of government. A close adviser to the president told the newspaper Mr Trump was “bemused” by the attacks.

Mr Trump was also reportedly furious that Vice President Mike Pence declined to intervene in the certification of the national vote. However the vice president serves in a mostly-symbolic role throughout the typically mundane procedures and could not have stepped in to override.

But that’s exactly what the president wanted him to do: In a tweet on the morning of the riots, Mr Trump wrote: “If Mike Pence does the right thing, we win the election. He has the absolute right to do it.”

The vice president did not have the “absolute right” to override the will of the American people. Mr Trump went on to release a video during the Capitol mob attacks in which he continued to promote outright falsities surrounding the election. Twitter temporarily blocked the president’s account on Wednesday before issuing a permanent ban on Friday.

A wave of social media platforms have since suspended the president from posting for at least the next two weeks, with Facebook’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg saying the president would not be given back control of his account until an orderly transition of power could be conducted.

Several of those social media platforms cited specific threats that had been made for follow-up attacks, as well as the president’s encouragement of the mob that stormed the Capitol, for their blocks on his accounts.

The White House did not immediately return a request for comment.

The one thing I don't quite understand — for the past four years it has pretty much been all Democrats vs Republicans; Red vs Blue; liberals vs conservatives; 'Patriots' vs 'The Deep State'.   Whatever happened to the independent parties — the Libertarians, for example, or the Greens?

I can understand that, with no one from these parties in the halls of Congress that they have had little to say or do and no forum from which to do so, but isn't there a Libertarian Facebook page or Twitter account on which they could hold forth?

And one would surely think that given the actions of this past week, SOMEONE from within their ranks would have had something to say about things, one way or the other, or to otherwise join the dogpile on Trump and the rest of the MAGA-heads.   But they have been conspicuous by their silence.   It's as if they've completely dropped off the face of the planet.

Further proof that he is driven by a deep self hatred.

Color me shocked that evidence is emerging of a significant police and military presence (active and former/retired) within the mob of insurrectionists who stormed the Capitol.

Not. Shocked, that is. It is my firsthand understanding of police and military culture that has me so concerned for the future of this country. I know some folks think I’m overwrought in my skepticism of police, but I feel that a significant number of them just cannot be trusted. The FBI has long known that the ranks of both have been heavily infiltrated by right wing white supremacy. The police have always been a racist mob of their own - they came out of the runaway slave retrieval agents of the antebellum age and haven’t advanced all that far in their tactics since, if we are being brutally honest.

Anyway, I truly fear that we are just at the beginning of a very bad time for America, not at the end of one. Remember that Hitler lost his beer hall putsch and was a laughingstock and then . . .

The people who still support what occurred last Wednesday represent a shockingly high percentage of our population. They also undoubtedly own a shockingly high percentage of the privately owned armaments in this country, and because many of them are undoubtedly police and military personnel, they also have effective access to a whole lot of government owned armaments, too. This is a very real threat to the future of our democracy.

This is USCP Officer Eugene Goodman, facing down a mob singlehanded. At 47 seconds in you can see him look to the left at the unguarded and as yet unlocked and unsecured doors to the fully occupied Senate Chamber. He then shoves and provokes the leader of the mob into chasing him as he misdirects them away from the Senate and to an area where backup officers then join him to meet the mob.

I think Biden should award him the Congressional Medal of Honor - Congress can pass a resolution making exception from the usual requirements as they have done in the past. They did that for the racist fascist Charles Lindbergh, they should do it for Officer Goodman.

God bless him, anyway.
