Is Yelp listening/

Post by MGMcAnick »

Our eight year old granddaughter spent Saturday at our house so her parents could ready their basement to be remodeled and finished off with a family room, third bathroom and a soundproof room for practicing percussion instruments. Yes, there are drummers in the family. The contractor arrives tomorrow.

Mrs Mc called me at work to ask me to bring home a pizza. We discussed the toppings and crust type. IMMEDIATELY after she clicked off (Is hung up still a term?) she received a text recommending Italian restaurants in our area. Is that a coincidence, or is there a way they can interpret a cell phone conversation? I'd never heard of such a thing.

Yes your phone is listening, it’s in the fine print. It hears pizza and gives you pizza ads.

You’re not paranoid. Your phone really is listening in.

Don’t worry, they’ve promised not to abuse the privilege.

Well maybe. The source is Faux News.

Touché. I often quote them so those who believe the network will be open to the content, and I interact with such folks online so I have that page bookmarked.

However if you Google you’ll find dozens of articles in lamestream media that corroborate the one I posted.

I have had multiple friends say that ads come up in their social media feeds seemingly in response to face-to-face conversations in their home. Too often and too specific to attribute to coincidence.

Oh I'm so sorry, MGMc.

Although I understand it's considered a treatable condition now.

Beats me what the therapy might be, but you need to stick with it.

Let's hold off on the drummer jokes, please.
There's gotta be at least a zildjian of them.

Yes, I suppose I could agree with you ... but then we'd both be wrong, wouldn't we?

You would be surprised at just how many people don’t understand how “smart speaker” technology works. If you have something that’s set to readily recognize voice commands it needs to be on always.

I have Siri set to be actively turned on for this reason.
Okay... There's all kinds of things wrong with what you just said.
