Look out! Trousers are cultural appropriation!

Post by MajGenl.Meade »

"It really is very complex because this is not a situation of cultural appropriation only... there is a level of appreciation that Stefani used to justify her actions," she told TODAY in an email. "It is cultural appropriation even though Stefani hired the young women to portray her version of Harajuku Girls for performances and personal appearances. Regrettably, Stefani borrowing a style for her dress and her backup performers, even a street style that originated and visually defines a portion of a society and in this case ethnic group, is cultural appropriation."

The "arts" especially seem to be targeted by the pinhead bigots of modern Wank sorry Woke-ism. I don't give a hoot for Gwen Stefani (and vice versa, natch) but once again the punishers of the past drag a bunch of dancers out of history as if it matters a damn. Soon they'll discover that all music belongs to three people of color (long dead) and everyone will just have to stop singing

And wearing trousers or anything else that originated somewhere else

Don't get them started on kilts!!!

I always thought the catholic school girls' uniforms (various plaid skirts) were based on kilts--of course this was before "cultural appropriation" even existed, but now I know better.

What would that mean? Catholic girls school uniforms were culturally appropriated from John Calvin?

Is there reverse cultural appropriation? The faith tradition of my youth firmly held "we can't do that because that's what Catholics do."
