"Ooh look I found a white person who wants any excuse to tell us how bad white people are..."

Discussing "critical race theory" is only valid when white people do it, if a black person speaks out about it they are an "Uncle Tom", and their thoughts are not valid, obvs...

Rashard Turner, who founded the chapter of BLM in St Paul, Minnesota said he quit his role with the organisation when he learned they were not working to improve the Black community.
How dare he have an opinion on BLM, what the fuck would he know about it?

Um, this guy is not discussing critical race theory. He is pushing his personal agenda for "charter schools." And to the extent that he thinks charter schools are the solution to "failing" public school systems serving minority communities, that is actually an acknowledgment of the entire point of critical race theory.

Critical race theory has nothing to do with any individual's achievements or potential. It is an academic tool for analyzing and understanding societal functions of law and socio-political organization by recognizing that there is such a thing as structural/systemic racism built into institutions exercising social power, whether intentionally or as a byproduct of cultural assumptions. What is there to "disagree" with? What are you all so worked up about?

ETA:

The critical race theory foofaraw going on now in social media is just another phony culture war "issue" ginned up by right-wing propagandists looking for something to excite their camp. I guess the War on Christmas must be over, I wonder who won?

I'd say the critical race theory bollocks going on now in social media is just another phony culture war "issue" ginned up by woke propagandists looking for something to excite their camp.

The academic tools are at it again.

Who's making all the fuss about it? How is it being used by "woke propagandists"? This is straight out of the right-wing bullshit playbook for agitating ignorant white folk: If anyone mentions "racism" as a problem, then they're the real racist.

In this thread alone I see two videos that are absolutely irrelevant and completely nonsensical in any actual discussion of critical race theory., which is what the thread is supposedly about. Why do you want to misidentify critical race theory and give it attributes it doesn't have, other than to create a strawman? It's just as ridiculous as the (right-wing propagandist) claim a couple weeks ago that Joe Biden's plan to address climate change means you'll be limited to four hamburgers a year. Talk about bollocks.

"Critical Race Theory" is a hot topic now. Most of the discussion reminds me of the hand-wringing discussion of STEM education in American public schools after the USSR put Sputnik into orbit. We did not call it 'STEM' but that is exactly what it was. There was a general consensus that schools had to do better. (Like there is now a consensus that 'driving while black' is not a good enuff reason to shoot black men in the back.)

One of the things that was advocated by experts was called 'The New Math' Very controversial. Particularly loud objections from a majority of parents and many teachers who knew about 'new math' only from fourth hand descriptions and curriculum written by school boards who knew little about the old math, let alone a new paradigm for understanding mathematics. In the short run it failed and has mostly been forgotten until a new generation of math teachers came out of college and just quietly adopted it.

"Critical Race Theory' right now is very similar--the loudest noise about it comes from those 'conservatives' and 'progressives' who know the least about it.

Critical race theory is an offshoot of critical legal studies, which I studied some in law school 30 years ago. In short, it is the theory that law doesn't happen as a formalistic outcome-neutral development of immutable principles, but is instead the product of the societal norms, biases and desired outcomes of those who create the law, and is inherently designed to preserve and promote those interests. It's not a particularly radical concept, except for those who want to pretend that human institutions are somehow produced without human flaws (if they are indeed flaws; see, e.g., "feature, not a bug"). Critical legal studies recognizes (as I constantly say here) that law is a political process of policy choices determining how we want our society to operate. It is not any stretch at all to say, as critical race theory does, that those policy choices can and do incorporate racial biases in determining social power relationships. Honestly, what is so objectionable about this? I mean other than it has the word "race" in it, which seems to trigger white conservatives enormously.

I simply asked for comments on a video titled 'father and daughter against critical race theory' . The video isn't speaking for me.

I thought liberals didn’t believe there was such thing as race. How can one have a Critical Race theory when there is no race? It is just Critical Theory.
I expected to be placed in an air force combat position such as security police, forward air control, pararescue or E.O.D. I would have liked dog handler. I had heard about the dog Nemo and was highly impressed. “SFB” is sad I didn’t end up in E.O.D.
