A truly justified use of deadly force by police is not murder, as a matter of law. So you might as well drop the propagandistic hyperbole and debate this is honest terms.liberty wrote: ↑Fri Jul 09, 2021 5:49 pmIt doesn’t bother you a police lieutenant murdered a woman? Is it that she was the wrong color or did she belong to the wrong tribe?BoSoxGal wrote: ↑Fri Jul 09, 2021 5:06 amliberty wrote: ↑Fri Jul 09, 2021 3:26 am
What are you talking about; you know better? If Pence were in danger of being lynched, you would provide the rope. The protesters had no rope or gun, and the only person shot was an unarmed woman, murder by Lt. Michael L. Byrd. What would have been the reaction if a black woman had been murdered during a leftist protest, comrade.
Prosecutors: Capitol Rioters Intended to ‘Capture and Assassinate’ Elected Officials
In this particular instance, as in no other instance before, the entire country has had with immediacy the opportunity to witness this use of deadly force - and many of us, myself included, watched Ms. Babbitt get shot in real time.
We saw her launch herself through a door window that had been shattered out by other insurrectionists.
We saw that the doors were heavily barricaded and on the other side we saw Congresspersons- including one of my own from Massachusetts- still running down that hall to evacuate, in fear of their lives.
We saw the gun being trained on the doors and the insurrectionists, and we heard the warnings of the officer, and we heard the insurrectionists all around Ms. Babbitt shouting ‘gun!’ ‘GUN!’
We saw Ms. Babbitt launch herself through that broken out window despite the gun being in full view trained right on her, and we watched her get shot once and fall back.
Unlike many police shootings on the street, she wasn’t shot multiple times, just once. Just enough to eliminate the threat she posed to Congresspersons and staff just mere feet away, given that the nature of her entrance into the building (unscreened by security), and the aggressive nature of her violation of the verbal directives given by Capitol police by launching herself at an armed officer despite repeated clear warnings to stand down, provided more than probable cause to believe that she might be carrying a backpack full of explosives, or other weapons on her person with the intent to cause serious bodily injury or death to persons beyond that barricaded door.
I saw this all unfold with my own eyes, as did millions of other Americans. It would all be available on video to show a jury, just like the actual murder of George Floyd was. There is little room for reasonable doubt about what happened in either case, and any prosecutor who viewed the video of the shooting of Ms. Babbitt no doubt realizes that the finding of any jury would be that the shooting was entirely reasonable and justified given the full context. When a prosecutor can see the evidence this clearly, she is empowered to make the call on justifiable use of deadly force without convening a grand jury to rubber stamp it. In this case, I have little doubt a grand jury would have seen it exactly the same as I do. It’s the only reasonable view of the clear evidence in the record.
If you honestly believe this was murder, liberty, I question your capacity for rational judgment. If you’re using this very sad situation as propaganda, I question your moral core.
