So they believe it is "disrespectful" to say that someone supported Trump? Why, unless they see something shameful in that?

No shit right? The comments on the Daily Mail are rabid over this - but how is it disrespectful to plainly state the truth about Dole’s choices in his final years? Assuming they were his and he was not manipulated by those around him, it’s a pretty sad legacy for a guy who almost lost his life fighting fascism to throw in with its rise here in America.

I have zero respect for anyone who supports Trump still after January 6 - I don’t care how old they are, how much they once stood for democracy and against fascism, it’s all blah blah blah when you are still in the corner of someone who has done so much damage to our institutions.

The man is dead, and he leaves behind loved ones, friend and family. Yes, he has been an ass in the last few years, but that is not the sum total of his life. All the better to remain silent IMHO.

But from what I can see, nobody said anything except to clearly state that he was a Trump supporter, which he was very public about himself. They didn’t say, that loser Bob Dole. There is no opinion being expressed, it’s a mere statement of fact. Why do Trump supporters think it’s offensive to acknowledge his support of Trump?

Probably too soon for this, even though it is chock full of truths.

True--but the first one went a bit further than just saying that (indicating "he knew better"), but I agree. then again, this was hardly a crowning achievement of his life, and I doubt it is the way he would want to be remembered. We don't have to whitewash him, but we don't have to point out all his drawbacks either. There's going to be plenty of time to cast blame later, so I'd prefer to wait (the same for your other post, which I also think is pretty accurate).

I have had to give a number of eulogies at funerals, including some for people I didn't really care for, but I always thought that this was the time for the family, so I focused on their good points and did my best. I'd rather see the same for Dole.
