I'm doing this from my laptop, so I don't know if it's the same with a tablet or phone, but just to the right of where it says "WORDLE" at the top of the page there's a little sprocket icon for 'settings'. Click on that, and then select 'dark mode'.

My problem is somewhere in the 3rd or 4th line I tend to make a half assed guess.
I’ll pick something that will either put established letters out of place or skip letters in the interest of eliminating some other letters.

The asterisk signifies that I was playing in "hard mode", which means I have to use revealed letters in successive guesses, instead of ignoring what I already know and going fishing for new letters like Crackpot mentions.
And the blue and orange are what you get if you go to "colorblind" mode.
