A Rare Eagle
Re: A Rare Eagle
You might have noticed my town mentioned in that video; the Stellar’s was here just before Christmas and the little bridge over the Taunton River that I travel over to and from work was jam packed with birders for a couple of days.
For me, it is far better to grasp the Universe as it really is than to persist in delusion, however satisfying and reassuring.

I saw one - or I was told that's what it was by someone who knew far more about birds than I did - when I was working on a proposal for the environmental safeguards on a gas terminal on Sakhalin Island off the Pacific coast of Russia. It's where the Siberians used to send their prisoners. The two endangered species we were most concerned with were the Steller's sea eagle and the gray whale. The one we saw was far off - maybe a mile or so - and all the more impressive for that.
Georg Steller was a German biologist who was one of the first European scientists to study the northern Pacific area and has several species named after him.

What a gorgeous bird! Its still in that part of Maine, probably eating well and enjoying the New England winter. We hope to see it, soon.
