Hundreds of cricket clubs across the country are dropping the traditional tea for fear of being sued over allergens.
For years, clubs have laid on tables of tasty homemade sandwiches, pies, scones, cakes and biscuits for players, umpires, scorers, and spectators.
But as the season starts this month, many are opting out after leagues dropped rules requiring teas to be held.
Eden Valley Cricket League, a major village league covering Cumbria and Scotland boasting over 30 teams, is among those that have bailed on the tradition this season.
Fixtures secretary Matthew Burbury said the decision was made 'with a heavy heart' amid fears of litigation if someone suffers an allergic reaction.
'Even in Test match cricket they break for tea,' he said.
'Everyone on the committee felt it was the wrong decision but we did not feel we had any other option.'

From the Milwaukee Brewers website. They seem to be taking lessons from the airlines and the TSA.
Bag Policy (purses, in other words):
Single-compartment bags with dimensions of 9" x 5" x 2" or smaller, clear single-compartment bags of 12" x 12" x 6" or smaller, one-gallon clear zip lock bags, diaper bags, and medical/family needs bags are permitted inside the ballpark.
And of course, although it doesn't say so, you are going to be scanned for metal objects. Nail files, pocketknives, manicure scissors, even a fingernail clipper are all verboten and you will have to either surrender them at the gate — which means bye-bye, Boy Scout knife! — or return to wherever you parked, lock them inside your vehicle, and then try to get back inside in time to not miss anything. The day is coming eventually when everyone will be forced to strip and watch the game nude (after a cavity search, of course — bend over and spread 'em!) to make sure you aren't sneaking in anything.
Carry-Ins:
Sealed bottles of water, juice or soda (32 oz. or smaller), and personal size food items (e.g., a sandwich, small bags of pretzels, piece of fruit) are all permitted inside of the ballpark.
Digital Ticketing:

Limited Cash & Touchless Payment:
American Family Field is cashless at most of the concession stands and at all retail locations and portable kiosks. Cashless payment options include credit/debit cards, Brewers Gift Cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay or pre-paid cards. Concessions locations continuing to accept cash payments are:
Field Level: Kids Café
Loge Level: Section 232 (Sausages)
Terrace Level: Section 424 (Burgers)
So they're trying to go as digital as possible... it's not bad enough you have to pay at least $35 to get a good seat; now you've got to have an expensive electronic device in your possession to display your ticket, or to be able to quench your thirst, satisfy your hungries, or even buy a hat or shirt or giant foam finger to show your support. And what happens when — not if — the system gets overloaded and crashes while trying to pay for that bratwurst or beer?

This isn't new. Offhand, Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg has been cashless since last year.

Many Broadway shows have done the same thing, although they will email you the tickets if you don't have a smart phone (I think you need to print them out and they can scan the code on the printout). Payment for purchases can be by debit or credit cars, although some have kiosks that accept cash and dispense a prepaid card that can be used.
