Queen Elizabeth

Post by BoSoxGal »

Is dying. The palace has released a statement noting her physicians are ‘concerned for her health.’ Charles is there and William and family are heading to Balmoral.

Long live the queen. :(

I'm by no means a royalist but I have to appreciate the job she has done. BTW the headline in the Daily Mail is 'Sussexes head for Balmoral' as if anyone cares what those two nincompoops are up to. (Balmoral is the Scottish castle/house where HM now is.). That of course tells you all you need to know about the DM and I am ashamed that I go there also daily - it's a bit like the urge to stare at a traffic accident.

I don’t understand why I keep crying this morning. I think because I wasn’t able to see or be with my own beloved grandmother when she was dying, and because my beloved client/patient is also 96 and I am fair certain that she is unlikely to make it to another Christmas - she will definitely be sad if she does, as she is at that stage that the very elderly often reach where every morning that they open their eyes to a new day on this earth fills them not with gladness but with despair. Being very elderly is both a blessing and a curse.

Too soon old, too late wise.

I am not a fan of her (really not a fan of any monarch), but she is a human being and I trust she isn't suffering. That said, 96 years of relatively good health is a good run.

And if this is her end (and by all accounts it appears to be) I look forward to all the sky is falling events that have been predicted should Charles become King, and will be surprised if any do. IMHO, this is more like changing a favorite character in a TV show--things will go on without without her (as they will with all of us)--the world didn't end when Johnny Carson retired, nor did the news end after Walter Cronkite. I am far more concerned about the conservative majority in Parliament and the new PM than i am if Chuckles the Clown wears a crown or not.

I would not want a sovereign, but there is something sad about this. She was a good woman who tried her best to serve her people faithfully.
I expected to be placed in an air force combat position such as security police, forward air control, pararescue or E.O.D. I would have liked dog handler. I had heard about the dog Nemo and was highly impressed. “SFB” is sad I didn’t end up in E.O.D.

I'm not sure exactly what she really did, but she apparently did it well and she had a lot of people who supported and cared for her, which is quite a legacy. And unlike many who are born to wealth (like Trump) she did not appear to be a jerk. An even greater legacy. RIP.

Yes. This.

I would not want a sovereign either, but...why are my eyes suddenly getting so wet?

What lib said. I always liked her directive to James Bond. A shame he was not able to complete that mission.

Sorry, I don't feel that King Charles III is truly fit to serve, but that's the way the crown tumbles. Of course there have been others on the throne who were not nice guys. Despots, really. Henry VIII comes to mind.

What do we know about Prince William, first born son of Charles and Diana, who comes up next?

When I was young all I knew about Her Majesty was that she was a pretty nice girl but she didn't have a lot to say.

As time has passed I haven't followed news about her much but she seemed like a very respectable person to me.

I can’t wait to see Chuck cubed does. I am hoping he tosses Randy Andy to the curb. Maybe put him in charge of corgi care and cleaning. He is supposed to streamline the Monarchy and who knows what that will actually mean. I would really respect him if he trimmed his coronation down to a pitch in lunch and save the taxpayers a few quid.

Meanwhile RIP E II.

Personally, I'd like to see King Charles III wear a crown when he's out in public and he should always carry a scepter with him. Maybe Apple could make him an iScepter that includes an attachment that monitors his health and reminds him to take his medications - and of course it should include GPS tracking and a phone w/camera. It probably should have a stun gun on it also, for his personal protection against anyone within 6 feet of him.

He should probably start a YouTube channel and join Twitter if he isn't already registered on those channels. He could call his YouTube channel, "Charles in Charge" and he should create videos and always write stupid things about Trump.

And I just thought that he should probably declare each Friday a day for casual dress the the palace - but he should always wear his crown and carry his scepter.

And why is Camilla the "Queen Consort" instead of a queen? I know there are rules but they should be changed. She should be called
"The First Lady" if not the Queen. "Consort" sounds more like she is part of an illicit relationship. At least that's what it sounds like to me, an AmerEnglish speaking American guy.

Doesn't the monarch have the privilege of being able to select a regnal name once they assume the throne?  For example, Queen Victoria used her middle name once she acceded to the throne (her birth name was Alexandrina Victoria), as did her son, Edward VIII (he was named after his father, Albert Edward).

So it's entirely possible the new king — whose full name is 'Charles Philip Arthur George Mountbatten-Windsor' — may also eschew the name 'Charles' in favor of one of his other three name.  Personally, I like the sound of King Arthur...

Maybe with all those names to choose from, he could give himself a rapper-type name like: King CPAG M Windsor.

King Charles III has already announced his intention to use his given name.

Here is an instructive piece on the five different types of Queens:

Queen Regnant

When a woman inherits the crown in her own right, she is a ‘Queen Regnant.’ She reigns by right of birth and has the same powers and responsibilities as a King.

In English history there have been six undisputed Queen Regnants: Mary I, Elizabeth I, Mary II, Anne, Victoria and Elizabeth II.

Scotland has been reigned over by five Queen Regnants – Mary Queen of Scots, Mary II, Anne, Queen Victoria, and the present Queen.

Queen Consort

This is the most common kind of Queen in history. The wife of a King. In the British system, she is ‘Her Majesty the Queen’ and signs ‘R’ for ‘Regina’ after her name – exactly as a Queen Regnant would.

Queen Dowager

A former Queen Consort whose husband is dead. In the British system she is rarely known as ‘Queen Dowager.’ Instead she uses ‘Queen first name’. For example, the widow of George V was known as Her Majesty Queen Mary during the reign of her sons and granddaughter. She is still a Queen. But she is no longer the Queen.

Queen Mother

When a Dowager Queen is the mother of the reigning monarch, they are often informally known as ‘Queen Mother.’ It is rarely an official style. But it was from 1952 – 2002. Because of confusion potentially arising from the presence of two Queen Elizabeths at the same time, the mother of the current Queen officially assumed the style ‘Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother.’ However, servants and those ‘close’ to her referred to her simply as ‘Queen Elizabeth.’

It is important to note, that the mother of monarch cannot be given Queen Mother status is she were never a Queen herself. As such the mothers of Edward IV, Henry VII and Queen Victoria were never styled as ‘Queen Mother’. Though in the case of the first two, they were effectively treated as such.

Queen Regent

These are rare. If a King were absent for a period of time, he may leave his wife in charge. As such, she would become ‘Queen Regent’ and exercise the Royal prerogative on his behalf.

The style would typically only last a few weeks. Both Katherine of Aragon and Katherine Parr enjoyed this distinction during the reign of Henry VIII.

There are occasions where the arrangement lasts longer. Mary de Guise was Queen Regent of Scotland during the long minority of her daughter.

It is highly unlikely that we will ever see another Queen Regent in the UK. The creation of ‘Councillors of State’ removes the need for short-term regency. Were a regency ever required to deal with an under-age or incapacitated monarch, law dictates that this role should go to the next adult in the line of succession. A Queen Consort could never be that person.

There's always wankers who will use any excuse to air what shits they are.
Enraged Brits pelted eggs at a fish and chip shop after the restaurant's owner posted a video online celebrating the death Queen Elizabeth II.

Jaki Fish and Chip Shop, in Muir of Ord, was targeted after owner Jacki Pickett shared a clip of her popping and spraying champagne shortly after Her Majesty's passing.

Ms Pickett also held up a chalkboard sign reading: 'Lizard Liz Dead and London Bridge has fallen.'

The apparent anti-monarchist's post prompted a large group of residents to gather outside the business in protest as they booed and berrated Ms Pickett.

Police were called to disperse the crowd and were forced to close the shop amid concerns for the owner's safety.
While millions around the world were mourning the death of the 96-year-old monarch, provocateurs were within hours of her death mocking the outpouring of grief - in some of the most esteemed publications in the United States.

One Pennsylvania professor even said she hoped the queen's final hours of pain would 'be excruciating.'

Jeff Bezos was among those condemning her now-deleted tweet.

The ridicule of her reign was led by Tirhakah Love, senior newsletter writer for New York Magazine.

'For 96 years, that colonizer has been sucking up the Earth's resources,' he wrote in his Thursday evening newsletter.

He added: 'You can't be a literal oppressor and not expect the people you've oppressed not to rejoice on news of your death.'

BTW, how does one get to be a "teacher and associate professor at the Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh," and yet be so unintelligent?
