Stupid beyond words

Post by Gob »

Have to ask, can anyone, anyone at all, explain to me the logic behind the thinking that: "pouring a bucket of shit over the statue of Sir Tom, (the 100-year-old World War Two veteran, who raised £33million for the NHS during lockdown,) will discourage people from using private jets"?

It escapes me at the a moment.

The father of a former medical student from Wales, who sparked fury when she poured human excrement over a Captain Sir Tom Moore memorial, has said he is “deeply ashamed” of her actions. Jim Budd said his daughter Maddie, 21, had “gone rogue” after dropping out of medical school to become a full-time eco-warrior.

The 62 year-old father-of-six said he felt sick when he saw the video of his daughter defiling Captain Sir Tom’s image. He described her actions as “desecrating his memory".

A video of Maddie’s stunt for the pressure group End UK Private Jets is with Derbyshire Police, which is investigating. Maddie filmed herself pouring the canister of faeces and urine over the memorial to the late captain, who made international headlines in 2020 when he raised millions for charity in the run-up to his 100th birthday during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Speaking from their home near Kington on the England-Wales border, Maddie’s father was close to tears, reporters Dan Sales and Tom Bedford said. Mr Budd, an award winning glazier, said he and his charity worker wife Harriet, 63, have messaged Maddie, but had no reply.

“The shock of this is hurting people and upsetting them,” said Mr Budd. “I’m ashamed of her and what she has done. There has been a big public reaction for obvious reasons. I don’t think she understands what the hell she was unleashing.

"She’s done something horrible without thinking of the consequences. I felt sick with shock when I saw it - I have sent her a text message but she has not replied.

"It goes against all the things you instil in your children - it is not normal behaviour. I’m extremely sad. The fact is she has sort of gone rogue."

Until recently Maddie was at medical school in Manchester ahead of an expected career with the NHS. She dropped out to devote all her time to protesting over climate change.

Her father said it was “understandable” police were investigating what he described as “an act of desecration”: “‘I can’t really apologise on her behalf. Sir Tom was clearly a national hero and the country resonated with his fantastic and amazing actions.

“We are trying to sort to out but if the police get involved then so be it. However shocking the future of climate change predictions are, I don’t think it was her duty to desecrate his memory in the way she has.

"Her motivations are very real but misplaced. The fact is she has gone rogue, so to speak. When people are young and vulnerable they can go down roads they would not do later in life. It is a horrible thing to have happened and people are obviously upset.

“It is very hard to understand how young people can feel so threatened by climate change that they can carry out such extreme actions. But I’m not making excuses for her, she has made a terrible mistake. We were horrified, it’s an ongoing worry."

I can’t fathom the mindset that doesn’t grasp why young people feel extreme anxiety over the state of the climate given that the very solid science shows their lives will be a nonstop shit show of climate catastrophe all around them and very extreme effects on their own personal lives.

My guess is that daddy isn’t very clever about science, or he’s a science denier like so many of his generation. If he honestly thinks some feces on a statue that can be cleaned and ship shape in a matter of minutes is a more extreme action than the environmental despoiling caused by multinational corporations and enabled by useless politicians and a largely sleeping populace then he is a dumbfuck engaged in dumbfuckery by tearing down his daughter.

By the way letting the environment be destroyed so that the earth becomes largely uninhabitable and in the meantime engaging in tribalism that fuels the resurgence of fascism doesn’t exactly honor Sir Tom or any of the rest of the millions of people killed in WWII and who served and survived it. That’s partly the point, which the folks who screech in knee jerk reaction to some poop on the memorial just don’t/can’t grasp.
For me, it is far better to grasp the Universe as it really is than to persist in delusion, however satisfying and reassuring.

Or maybe he just thinks that pouring shit over the statue of Sir Tom is a mind-blowningly stupid, counter-productive, meaningless, idiotic, fuckwitted, criminal, way of stopping people using private jets?

It’s from the PETA publicity handbook or the fecal equivalent of a bus full of refugees.

And of course the dim old bugger didn't say "“It is very hard to understand how young people can feel so threatened by climate change". That portion of the complete sentence was modified by the balance.

He said, “It is very hard to understand how young people can feel so threatened by climate change that they . . . ." and then there was some other horrible old long-ago sensibility about public behavior, public property and art.

He is of course horribly unfashionable in this brave new world - not understanding that pouring shit over public property is no longer regarded as anything other than perfectly acceptable behavior. Perhaps it is even de rigueur for the majority these days.

Mind, I suppose it's all part and parcel of so-called performance "art". Sir Captain Tom should probably feel honored.
For Christianity, by identifying truth with faith, must teach-and, properly understood, does teach-that any interference with the truth is immoral. A Christian with faith has nothing to fear from the facts
