Dordle, quordle, and Octordle frequently reuse words. "QUOTH" has been used 3 times in Octordle: May 29th, July 22nd, and August 28th.Bicycle Bill wrote: ↑Wed Oct 05, 2022 11:18 pm
These games have been going on so long (and we've used up so many words already... 254 x 8 = over 2000 in Quordle alone!) that I'm starting to overthink myself trying to come up with new ones...
I do check my guesses on Wordle against the current list of used words, as Wordle hasn't reused any yet. In fact, unless it gets re-coded it can't, it's a static list. The others use some form of randomization though it backfired once when 2 puzzles had the same answers the same day.
There are 2309 words that are viable answers (originally 2315 but 6 were removed when NYT took over as those were considered offensive or too obscure), so the list won't run out until Oct 2027. I have read they added 2 in, but haven't seen confirmation of that.
The list of words allowed as guesses but never as an answer is a lot bigger- 10638 (originally 10657). The answer list is essentially the same for all 4 puzzles, the 2315 word list, though I think the British spellings used in Wordle were weeded out of most of the others.
