We used concentration camps in the United States only a short time ago; let’s not pretend that we don’t have the same capacity for evil as any other society.

How about this: Biden bows out and endorses a team of rivals, Harris/Cheney 2024?
Yes, PLEASE do that! PLEASE run that ticket in 2024!

You are right, but wasn't that done by a leftist liberal president of the United States? Please tell me how we have nothing to fear from a leftist government in the United States.
I expected to be placed in an air force combat position such as security police, forward air control, pararescue or E.O.D. I would have liked dog handler. I had heard about the dog Nemo and was highly impressed. “SFB” is sad I didn’t end up in E.O.D.

I have never said any such thing - extremism of any kind can lead to terrible policies and violence.

We also had the US Congress,Senate and House, participate in the blacklisting of suspected communists--not necessarily people advocating the violent overthrow of the US government, bu just people with left leaning who refused to rat on their friends. And that was a distinctly right wing agenda--preventing these people from making a living. How dareanyone not toe the line of the right wing orthodoxy.

From the safe hindsight of five decades later, the internment of Japanese and - let's not forget - German and Italian descended Americans during WW2, was a foolish and racist decision. But it had very broad support - 93% of the population approved moving Japanese aliens (i.e., non-citizens) away from the coast and 59% approved moving US citizens of Japanese descent. So although FDR was in charge it is at best disingenuous to label this a leftist decision.

Wouldn't the use of Gitmo as a 'detention center' for suspected terrorists in the post-9/11 period, or the 'holding facilities' implemented during TFG's attempt to crack down on undocumented immigrants, also count, after a fashion, as 'concentration camps'?

Yes, I suppose I could agree with you ... but then we'd both be wrong, wouldn't we?

Funny how they were removed from the mainland coast but left there to continue living in Hawaii. I don't remember anything about Germans and those of German ancestry removed from Ohio and their property confiscated.

We imprisoned German and Italian POWs here in WWII, but I must have missed the stories about German and Italian descended citizens being interred? My first generation German American grandfather - a Nazi sympathizer at that - was enlisted in the US Army and fought in the European theater in WWII. His first generation German American bride and four sons all remained safely ensconced in their Bronx apartment throughout the war - along with their German speaking immigrant grand/parents.

Looks like it happened on a very limited basis and primarily to German and Italian nationals i.e., non-citizens.

It looks like US citizens of those enthicities may well have been detained according to this:

https://encyclopedia.densho.org/German_ ... detainees/

It doesn't really surprise me all that much; throughout our history the US government has often sought to, and sometimes even succeeded in, imprisoning supposed "enemies" without regard to the Constitution. Not really a left/right thing--more of an authoritarian thing--and the Supreme Court has often been happy to be complicit in it as long as we were/are imprisoning "them". Face it, how long has Gitmo been open? And how long have the detainees (they're not prisoners, right? ) been imprisoned, sorry detained, without trial or even the secret hearings proposed. I do not think any US citizens are imprisoned there, but it wouldn't surprise me.

Back to the topic of political campaign. It has happened--the event I promised to report here. MoveOn dot com has sent me a text messages asking for money to counter Trump's announced run for prexy in 2024.

It did have a nice big solid red square with the words in white "Make Trump Lose Again." If they have such a red hat, I will buy it. Otherwise all this stuff goes directly to trash, on my phone, computer or actual snailmail.

Now that there is funny
For Christianity, by identifying truth with faith, must teach-and, properly understood, does teach-that any interference with the truth is immoral. A Christian with faith has nothing to fear from the facts
