Nah--I think he's just positioning himself for the nomination if Trump cannot accept it (for whatever reason--maybe a bullet, maybe a health crisis, the possibilities are boundless). I seriously doubt any person with an IQ over 80 would want to be Trump's VP.

I agree that Romney doesn’t want to work with Trump.
I honestly think Romney has too much integrity, now that he’s seen all that Trump really is and how he’s changed the party.
Romney and his family have faced serious security threats from MAGAts, but luckily he’s as rich as Croesus so he can afford to protect his family and himself.
I think Romney is stuck in the old ways, in the old GOP and the old politics of civility where it would have made sense to not put the country through the ordeal of prosecuting a former president.
However I am of the school of thought that we should have prosecuted Nixon and should never give a pass to politicians - if anybody should face the rule of the law, public servants should, especially those entrusted with the highest offices.
Plenty of democracies around the world have survived prosecuting former leaders; we can too.

Personally, I think Romney is like a lot of politicians, republican, democrat, or other who are concerned that if Trump can be prosecuted, so can they. They don't have to be very corrupt, but I would bet many, if not most, politicians have made some concessions that could put them at risk, and it scares the hell out of them. FWIW, I think that is what happened with Nixon as well. "Ordeal of prosecuting a former..." is just an excuse to cover up for that. And somehow I still think this will all be ended without seeing any federal prosecutions, and the states greatly curtailed. Not sure how it will play out yet, but I still think we won't see those prosecutions.
FWIW, I agree with you 100%; if we are to be a government of laws, we have to assure our public servants comply with those laws or face the consequences.

I remember my dad complaining about Hillary that "If I did that, I'd be in prison already". He doesn't talk about TFG's crimes though.

Romney did not "attack" Biden. He said that if he'd been in Biden's place, he'd have pardoned Trump in order to look like the big guy and make Trump look like the little guy.
He also opined that Biden made an "enormous error" in not pressuring NY (as Johnson would have done) to drop their prosecution because, in Mitt's opinion, it's a win-win for Trump.
So Cohen lied again - "enormous error" referred only to the NY case.
Mitt also said “I think it’s a terrible fault for our country to see people attacking our legal system — that’s an enormous mistake. I think it’s also demeaning for people to quite apparently try and run for vice president by donning a red tie and standing outside the courthouse. It's just — I'd have felt awkward.”

I would love to see how Romney reasons the NY prosecution is a win-win for Trump. IMHO, just getting him to sit there and be quiet is a win for us all.

I can see how it is a win-win for Trump.
If he is acquitted, or found guilty of a misdemeanor, then he is vindicated in his claims that it was a "political" prosecution.
If he is found guilty of a felony, he becomes a martyr of a political prosecution.
Even if found guilty of a felony, I doubt that he will face even a day behind bars, because of the impracticality of maintaining his security while incarcerated. Unless NYS-DOC is going to create a special facility to house only him, or something. Reminiscent of Rudolph Hess in his latter years in Spandau Prison.

Or Pablo Escobar (but he called the shots more).
But even if he were incarcerated in a special facility (and I seriously doubt he'd be incarcerated at all) I don't think he'd count it as a win. He couldn't spout off to the press day and night, likely not even post online. And he'd be ignored; he deserves much worse, but it would not be a win.
Maybe he could go to supermax "for his own protection". Bit it ain't gonna happen.
