VERDICT IS REACHED!

Thank you for your service and courage, jurors.
Is our country going to self destruct now?

For Christianity, by identifying truth with faith, must teach-and, properly understood, does teach-that any interference with the truth is immoral. A Christian with faith has nothing to fear from the facts

Six weeks until sentencing. How much more can the convicted felon antagonize the sentencing judge between now and then? J. Merchan has kept his cool but I can't help but think he's seriously considering whether to impose some jail time in addition to whatever monetary penalties are available.
It would definitely be satisfying to see this guy marched off in shackles to sit at Rikers for a few months.

I agree with this sentiment but also glad that minutes before I heard the Trump verdict I had just listened to the verdicts of guilty against that sick child and wife killer religious nutter Chad Daybell.

Wasn’t expecting quite a quick verdict
Okay... There's all kinds of things wrong with what you just said.
Re: VERDICT IS REACHED!
Some analyst was saying that the specific pieces of testimony they wanted read back, that followed the evidence path laid out by the prosecution in their closing, showed that the jury was on its way to a guilty verdict.

People who are wrong are just as sure they're right as people who are right. The only difference is, they're wrong.

X 34 !!!
However, just wait for all the appeals...
this will drag on for decades, even if inmate P01135809 (or does he get a new number for this one?) were to die tomorrow.
(edited to add ... great minds think alike, huh, E-line)

Yes, I suppose I could agree with you ... but then we'd both be wrong, wouldn't we?

Not sure if NY, like Massachusetts, considers a convict who dies pending appeal to be legally innocent a la Aaron Hernandez - BigRR? Sue?

And I just learned that the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court abolished the doctrine of abatement when Hernandez’s went up on appeal. Re: VERDICT IS REACHED!
Just curious ... does this now mean that Donald J. 'Dishonest John' Trump is in fact a convicted felon?
Or is that status premature until he has explored and exhausted all avenues of appeal?
Personally, I would feel that as of today he should be considered a convicted felon for the simple reason that someone who is NOT a convicted felon would have no need to seek an appeal of anything.

Re: VERDICT IS REACHED!
Other brilliant minds will give the correct response but my answer is that yes, Trump is now a convicted felon.
P.S. They should have escorted him out of court in handcuffs.

There is a common law doctrine (abatement ab initio) in criminal law which negates a conviction if the defendant died before they could exhaust all appeals. It is followed by most federal courts and some states as well. One famous example was the federal courts setting aside the convictions against Enron fraudster Ken Lay when he died pending appeal - which screwed his victims out of court ordered compensation, a very shitty deal.

I feel like they should utilize some buildings on Ellis Island as a place to incarcerate Don the Con. Given his attitudes and policies toward immigrants, it would have a real poetic justice to it.

I wish Lord Jim was still with us. I always enjoyed reading his thoughts and opinions. Especially on politics.
but I bet if I posted the following photo here, Jim would scratch out his own eyeballs and then come looking for me to scratch mine out...
(and of course I'd point out to him that he probably should have scratched my eyes out first)
