Biden's Out
Biden's Out
Just read Biden withdrew from the race; this much turmoil so close to the convention and election will probably guarantee a Trump win. If he withdrew in January, or before the primaries, if the dems had promoted a viable heir apparent, if... This does not bode well for those who cherish democracy.
I also read he endorsed Harris, but wonder what effect this endorsement will have--the had four years to promote her as a viable candidate but, for some reason, did not do so. She has stepped up on the abortion issue recently, but I fear that's too little, too late; there's going to be a big battle for the nomination that will further fracture the party, even if she chooses to step aside or to remain as the VP nominee. Thix is going to b brutal.
His message (written) was fairly noncommittal, but he has to be pissed. How soon before he pardons Hunter--I was betting sometime after the election if he lost, but now I am concerned it might be earlier--after all, he's immune from any consequences and it could be his FU to the dems.

This is very sad.
All we can hope for now is that the I'd rather vote for a vegetable than Trump sentiment is stronger than we'd hoped. Harris is going to have to impress a lot of people very quickly.

What I'm hoping we don't see is a sense of discouragement and staying home.
Re: Biden's Out
I’m sad for Biden but he made the decision so now we live with it.
Harris deserves the nomination. If she doesn’t get it, the Democrats are more sure to lose than if they’d gone with Biden. There is simply no way to explain refusing to give the job to the black woman who has been in the room where it is all happening for the last four years.

Re: Biden's Out
Harris is the descendant of an evil slave owning ancestor; her soul is polluted with evil blood. The only decent thing for her to do is to kill herself. She should have never been born; her ancestor should have never had children and prevented this evil from continuing.

I expected to be placed in an air force combat position such as security police, forward air control, pararescue or E.O.D. I would have liked dog handler. I had heard about the dog Nemo and was highly impressed. “SFB” is sad I didn’t end up in E.O.D.

That you would believe that the descendant of a rape victim bears responsibility for the sins of the rapist does not surprise me in the least.

Re: Biden's Out
I can't argue with that BSG, but as Joe said, she's going to have impress a lot of people very quickly; I think a good number of people don't knwo who she i, and a lot more don't know what she stands for. The last time I recall this happening was in 1968, and we ran the VP of a president who had failing numbers and stepped aside, and we all know who we got as president then. The ind depth campaigning has to start right away, and the dems have to unite behind a nominee instead of bickering. Sadly, I am not confident that will happen.BoSoxGal wrote: ↑Sun Jul 21, 2024 8:29 pmI’m sad for Biden but he made the decision so now we live with it.

Re: Biden's Out
I highly doubt that. My bet is the party very swiftly coalesces around Harris and the convention will be a massive show of support. The only question is who will be her running mate: Big Gretch Whitmer or Josh Shapiro? I have heard talk of Mark Kelly, but I think a popular governor from a major "swing state" is probably a more practical choice.
I supported Harris in the 2020 primaries because I thought she would absolutely murder Trump in a "debate" (Trump doesn't debate). I like her, I think she'll be a great candidate and it's still a very long way to November. Run hard on reproductive rights, historically low unemployment, funding for infrastructure and tech manufacturing, and the threat of Project 2025. Wouldn't hurt to harp on Trump's age, declining mental faculties and unfitness for office. Kamala was a top prosecutor, Trump is a convicted felon; if that's not a golden opportunity for messaging I don't know what is.
ETA:
I have thought Harris should be president since I saw her speech at the Women's March in January 2017. I am very much looking forward this election; I was already committed to work for Andy Kim for Senate here in NJ and I'll be happy to help get out the vote for Harris over in PA as well.

If you think that's funny, it's not; it's disgusting and you are not only an idiot but a vile churl.liberty wrote: ↑Mon Jul 22, 2024 12:39 amHarris is the descendant of an evil slave owning ancestor; her soul is polluted with evil blood. Sue--I hope you're right; let's see. FWIW, I can't think of anyone who would be a better candidate, but then I didn't think the grumbling would result in Biden leaving and look what happened.
Personally, if I were advising/handling Trump I'd advise him not to debate with her as it's a no win for him--at the very least she'd benefit from the exposure and, you're right, she'd kick his ass. I would advise him to say he won't debate with an illegitimate (or false or something like that) candidate sent to try and steal the election--it would fire up his base. The dems could try and use his ego against him and say he won't debate because he knows he'd lose--and it might work. But his best strategy is to just ignore her--at least until she riles him up. And I'd give even money that will happen.

So in the past few hours we have learned that birtherism is back, and racism/sexism are still clearly a thing.

If you're going to suggest she is unqualified, come up with a better reason than that. Otherwise, fuck you, the horse you rode in on, and the sheet you're wearing.liberty wrote: ↑Mon Jul 22, 2024 12:39 amHarris is the descendant of an evil slave owning ancestor; her soul is polluted with evil blood. Yes, I suppose I could agree with you ... but then we'd both be wrong, wouldn't we?
