Home for Random Thoughts
Re: Home for Random Thoughts
Driving is a hard job that requires constant vigilance; I know I (and probably most drivers who have been driving for years), especially when kids are involved (darting out between parked cars, crossing against the light ...). I have always thought that it is not enough to be "right" when you consider the consequences--I cannot imagine what it would be like to have hurt or killed a kid or young person, even if I was technically "right" (although you always have to yield to pedestrians, even when they are doing stupid things). I which the best for both of them.

Where do old rock-and-rollers go when they die?
Well, consider this — there's a Highway to Hell, but only a Stairway to Heaven. And you've got to knock on Heaven's door when you get there.

Yes, I suppose I could agree with you ... but then we'd both be wrong, wouldn't we?

Sounds like a good program; the one in Feb as well.

Do you think Elon Musk might be a little jealous that Trump calls Kim Jong Un 'Rocket Man' instead of him?

Jack Teixeira, the young guardsman from my hometown of Dighton, MA who leaked national secrets is going to federal prison for 15 years.
That other guy who famously stole national secrets and left them unsecured all over his resort home and showing them to who knows who is going back to the White House.

I think Elton John, Bernie Taupin, or ASCAP might have a case against Trump for unauthorized use of copyrighted material without payment of royalties.

And then there was Chelsea Manning, who was accused and tried by an army court-martial of no less than 22 various offenses including "aiding the enemy" (incidentally — what enemy? Did we have a war and nobody showed up?), which could have earned her the death penalty, for passing on both classified and non-classified (but still 'sensitive') documents and information to WikiLeaks. She received 35 years at Leavenworth (and served almost seven years of it) before her sentence was commuted by Barack Obama.BoSoxGal wrote: ↑Tue Nov 12, 2024 10:02 pmJack Teixeira, the young guardsman from my hometown of Dighton, MA who leaked national secrets is going to federal prison for 15 years.

It truly does make one wonder. Maybe that old outdoorsman was right when he said the difference between animals and humans is that animals would never let the dumbest one of them be their leader.

Don's in Great Danger!: "Donald Trump has confirmed he will appoint South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem to lead the Department of Homeland Security. She made headlines earlier this year when in her memoir she revealed she had killed her dog with a shotgun because it was "untrainable" and "dangerous".

If Germany is the Fatherland, and Russia is the Motherland...
then WWII was just an especially nasty divorce.

I often have to wait in reception at the doctor's office. And of course everyone these days announces their date of birth at the desk, to prove identity.
Eye-opening.

On the way to work this morning it was the NPR funding campaign - I got thinking about what they used to call "driveway moments," where you sit in your car to listen to the remainder of the NPR radio piece you've been listening to as you were driving - because it's that good.
One thing I really don't like about the new high tech vehicle - shutting it off and getting the radio back on by accessory mode takes FOREVER. I guess it's the reboot of the systems? But it sucks - you have to keep the car running to listen to the rest of the song or podcast or NPR piece, or else you miss a big chunk while going from on to accessory mode.

As long as we don't hit the button to turn it off, the radio in my fianceé's hybrid will continue to run on the battery ... maybe the motor will kick in to throw some more juice into the battery if we wait there long enough.BoSoxGal wrote: ↑Wed Feb 05, 2025 10:51 pmOne thing I really don't like about the new high tech vehicle - shutting it off and getting the radio back on by accessory mode takes FOREVER. Re: Home for Random Thoughts
I don't know if that's just hybrids, but my car (not a hybrid) keeps the radio on after turning the engine off until the door is opened (I imagine it must be the driver's door, but I have not tested this and am unsure). Also, my manual says it will turn off automatically after a certain number of minutes if the door is not opened, but i have not tested this either.

I guess this is sort of a random thought. I took this quick video with my iPhone yesterday.....
Re: Home for Random Thoughts
Sometimes just to punish myself I guess I will spend a little time just imagining the cabinet picks, the initiatives, the proposed legislation that would be going forward right now under a different administration.
And then I'll remember that even in that eventuality, this orange excrement and his cronies would have found ways to further divide the country and fuck up everything good.
I am really struggling to see a positive future coming out of all this.
