But you are the brainless twat proposing a move of the capital to a place "unconnected to the legacy of slavery", and yet your choice for its new home would be in a former slave state.

Some how Liberty needs a Canadian to teach him about the Missouri Compromise.

For all its faults and flaws, Washington DC is a beautiful city steeped in American history and it is appalling that any American citizen would seriously suggest burning it to the ground and all the beautiful architecture and monuments with it.

Again I assert that too many Southerners are not in fact loyal to this country. And it troubles me how many of them are in the active duty military.

Every one of the original 13 states was, at one time, a slave state. And I can assure you that every state in this country had slavery at some point before they became part of the United States. We know that American Indian tribes also enslaved captives, in addition to torturing and executing them. So, drawing a distinction based on a state’s legacy of slavery is irrelevant. I don’t understand why that’s so difficult to grasp. Once a portion of a state becomes the federal District of Columbia, it is no longer part of that state. Any history tied to the nearby state is erased as far as the district is concerned—it’s a new beginning. It’s like a rebirth in Christianity. The new capital doesn’t need to be in Missouri; it could just as easily be in Oklahoma, Kansas, or Nebraska, and it would serve the same purpose.
I expected to be placed in an air force combat position such as security police, forward air control, pararescue or E.O.D. I would have liked dog handler. I had heard about the dog Nemo and was highly impressed. “SFB” is sad I didn’t end up in E.O.D.

> BSG, were you one of those who applauded the burning of the historic mansion in Louisiana because of its connection to slavery? I don’t see the distinction between that mansion and the buildings in D.C. both were built with slave labor. So, what’s the difference? Don’t you think that kind of sacrifice might be worth a new beginning? > > And there would be no need to destroy the monuments; they could continue to exist, just as monuments do in New York City.

I’m someone who typically promotes and cherishes history. Shit Head and Sue, on the other hand, doesn’t care one iota about it, unless it helps to push some agenda. I think it's a major loss every time something historically significant is torn down. The greatest historic crime, in my opinion, was the burning of the Mesoamerican books by the Catholic Church in the 1500s. I’m opposed to all destruction of history. So, I ask again: wasn't the burning of the antebellum mansion in Louisiana a loss to history?

Any loss of historically significant documents and structures is a loss to all of us, but there is also an countervailing interest to progress and change. We could leave every city as it was in colonial times, or in the 19th century, or ..., but we also have a right and obligation to progress and embrace the future and to, periodically, get rid of the old/outmoded to make way for the new. We don't live in a museum but in a developing nation, and we have to make way for that as well. so we have to balance those interests to chart our future and to balance those interests so that one does not predominate over the other. So was the burning of an antebellum mansion a loss? Absolutely. But the reasoning behind it has to be looked at as well. I'll never applaud the destruction of any building of historical significance, but there is a big difference between the destruction of buildings that have been the seat of out government from its inception, and a building which is used to hold weddings and other private gatherings in the balancing of those interests. It's apples and oranges and I really don't understand the equivalence you are trying to make. Sometimes we dn't make the right calls IMHO, but remaining a museum to the past is not the best path in all,, indeed in many, circumstances.

You'd be better off writing "every territory" before becoming a State. But your argument is bankfukt anyway since every territory that applied for statehood after January 1st 1863 could only do so on the basis of already being a non-slave territory and thence becoming a non-slave state upon admission. If you mean "all bits of land between the borders of Mexico and that of Canada at one time had at least one slave "owner" in residence" then you might be accurate - though statistics might be tough.
The nation has grown, but the capital is still located on the East Coast. It should be relocated to a more central part of the country to make it more accessible to more of the people.
What makes you think moving it to (say) Missouri would make it "more accessible" to "more people"? Have you studied population stats to make that determination and if so, what are the facts? I'd hazard a guess it would make it less accessible to "more" people. More of the US population is within an easy drive (drive!) of DC than of Missouri. (Note: I'm using your "I have no idea what I'm talking about" mode - one of us cannot be wrong (L Cohen)]
For Christianity, by identifying truth with faith, must teach-and, properly understood, does teach-that any interference with the truth is immoral. A Christian with faith has nothing to fear from the facts

Stupidest? No, more like in the top 10. I think back to some of the Jay threads, as well as some of the pro Trump threads as being stupider.

Depends on what you mean by theoretically thre are many different infinities. (There is an infinite amount of whole numbers but there is an infinite number of subdivisions between every whole number. (Beyond that things start getting beyond my ability to comprehend)
Okay... There's all kinds of things wrong with what you just said.

Joe Guy, I have always advocated the reality of an infinity of infinities. Can we move on to more profound topics, such as the basic beauty of the exercise with bar bells called' the squat'? OK nostalgia time What was the name of Jay's wife?

I agree :D Does anyone really believe that land is perpetually polluted if it ever was occupied by slaves as Shit Head implied?

While I do genuinely believe the U.S. capital should be moved to a more central location for reasons of fairness, access, and security, I’m under no illusion that it’s likely to happen. The reality is, inertia tends to win out over reform—especially when it comes to something this deeply entrenched.

That said, I wouldn’t entirely rule it out under the current president… though only if the new city were named “Trumpville.”
