If the New York City mayoral candidate Mamdani turns out to be a communist, an ideology historically associated with regimes that have committed mass murder, then he could be seen as an enemy to all freedom-loving and decent people. That said, some of his ideas may not be entirely without merit.
The proposal to defund the police, however, is concerning. It could potentially lead to widespread disorder or even total anarchy.
One idea that does seem to have potential is the concept of a city-owned grocery store. For it to truly serve the people, it would need to operate on a very low margin—perhaps as low as 0.5%—and focus heavily on sourcing food from local farms, dairies, and ranches. Costs could be further reduced by employing individuals sentenced to community service, as well as offering work opportunities to those in city jails who are being held for minor misdemeanor offenses.
To make the system more humane and inclusive, workers could be rotated between various roles. For example, during part of their service time, some could assist with picking crops on local farms under cooperative agreements where farmers provide food in exchange for labor or reduced costs. On other days, individuals might help with stocking shelves, and some—after proper vetting—could even serve as assistant managers.
This approach has real potential to support low-income residents and offer meaningful opportunities for rehabilitation and reintegration. Most importantly, the poor could benefit from more accessible and affordable food, sourced locally and distributed with community involvement in mind.

I expected to be placed in an air force combat position such as security police, forward air control, pararescue or E.O.D. I would have liked dog handler. I had heard about the dog Nemo and was highly impressed. “SFB” is sad I didn’t end up in E.O.D.

Your description is literally kibbutz-style communism. With all your constant red-scare hysteria, I didn't know you were actually a communist.liberty wrote: ↑Wed Jul 16, 2025 7:27 pmOne idea that does seem to have potential is the concept of a city-owned grocery store. I know very little about kibbutzim; I am not interested in learning more, I already having too many interests and too little time. As for communism, I could never support it. I despise tyranny in any form and have no interest in any system associated with mass murder, whether it's Nazism, communism, or anything similar.Sue U wrote: ↑Thu Jul 17, 2025 7:56 pmYour description is literally kibbutz-style communism. Too often in life, people have to kill, but having the wrong opinion, showing insufficient enthusiasm for communism, or simply owning "too much" property should never be reasons for persecution or death.
Socialism, on the other hand, is a different matter. If it's applied in a community setting and follows some basic principles like respecting private property and adhering to constitutional rights, then I have no objection in theory. I’m open to it if it works.
The problem with many socialist experiments, especially those in parts of Africa, is that they have often failed. You can still find abandoned factories left behind by these initiatives. I believe much of this failure stems from what I call the “free candy store effect”, everyone wants to receive, but few are willing to work. You don’t get something for nothing.
That said, I have nothing against socialism in principle, as long as it’s efficient, sustainable, and respects individual freedoms.

Anyone else noticed that lib suddenly seems to have developed a vocabulary, punctuation, proper syntax and even (I shudder) some semi-sensible notions? I suspect AI
For Christianity, by identifying truth with faith, must teach-and, properly understood, does teach-that any interference with the truth is immoral. A Christian with faith has nothing to fear from the facts
Re: New York City mayoral candidate Mamdani
Lib--communism is not necessarily totalitarian or violent; some communes were founded in the 60s an still exist as societies where all parties work together for the common good. I think it is harder to have on a larger scale, but there is no reason for it to be any more violent or controlling than any other type of economic system.

Yes, I suppose I could agree with you ... but then we'd both be wrong, wouldn't we?

Have you ever noticed that people seem more intelligent when they agree with you? I have plenty of prattle; Let me know if you're running low, and I will resupply you.
