Donald's ankles must have developed muscles from carrying all of that tremendous weight around.

When I think of the much fitter people I have seen drop dead of cardiac arrests over the last decade or so of my life, it *does* frustrate that somebody who engages in zero fitness or healthy eating habits is benefiting from a genetic lottery which apparently has been protective against cardiovascular disease.

Still, every morning I wake with hope that today's the day.

And end up with a President Vance; I fear that might be far worse. Vance plays the fool, but I fear he's not a big an ass as Trump and could cause a lot more damage.

It's bone spurs!

Eh, I'm not getting my hopes up. Ankle edema doesn't necessarily mean anything.

Vance is certainly smarter than Trump (an extremely low bar) but he is a cipher; he has no personal political capital and commands no army of MAGAtry. He is a creature of techbro billionaires created solely to advance their interests. No one takes him seriously, let alone cowers like the GOP does before Trump. That's why his couch problem persists.

No one takes him seriously? I thought the same of Trump and look what we got. I hope you're right, but I still think he could be a danger.

I'm not sure Trump has charisma in the political arena-I think he (through his minions) have a lot of dirt that he uses to threaten those who disagree with him, and people (for whatever reason, cower in the face of that. Personally, I think one does not have to be liked to have power as a politician--Nixon proved that.

He does have some sort of charisma I cannot understand with the MAGA crowd, but that can change (and appears o be slowly eroding).

Donald Trump has the same kind of 'charisma' that his historical idols had. Please recall that his first wife attested that he kept a volume of Hitler's speeches (My New Order) by his bedside, and Trump has acknowledged as much.

This kind of 'charisma' is very powerful in manipulating an audience of hate and grievance-filled people.

People who are not hate and grievance-filled find it horrifying.

Trump diagnosed with common vein condition after leg swelling

President Donald Trump was recently diagnosed with a common vein condition after he noticed swelling in his legs, the White House announced Thursday.

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt told reporters that Trump recently underwent testing to investigate the swelling — including diagnostic vascular studies and an ultrasound of his legs — which revealed he has chronic venous insufficiency. The condition, which affects about 1 in 20 adults, is the result of blood not efficiently returning from the legs to the heart, often as a result of damaged valves in the veins.

The health update follows a spate of online speculation about Trump's swollen ankles and bruises on his hands.

Leavitt said Trump, 79, shows no signs of deep vein thrombosis or arterial disease, which can be complications of chronic venous insufficiency. She added that he also underwent thorough laboratory testing, which revealed results within normal limits, as well as an echocardiogram that showed “normal cardiac structure and function.”

“No signs of heart failure, renal impairment or systemic illness were identified,” she said.

Leavitt, who noted that the president remains in excellent health and is experiencing “no discomfort,” said that bruising on the back of Trump’s hand was also evaluated and determined to be minor soft tissue irritation from frequent handshaking and the use of aspirin, which the president takes as part of his ongoing cardiac care.

It may be a common condition — but how much does anybody wanna bet that when he posts about it on his Twitter clone, it will suddenly be the biggest and most life-threatening version of venous insufficiency ever, the doctors had never seen a condition such as this in anyone else, and they are absolutely amazed as to how well he can function and continue to perform his duties as Golfer-in-Chief with this potentially fatal condition?

I’m a bit puzzled; the common practice today is not to put older people on daily aspirin therapy if they truly have no sign or history of heart disease- because of the risk of gastrointestinal bleeding and other adverse effects from the aspirin therapy. I just had this conversation with my own cardiologist a year or two ago and I would think the CiC is benefiting from the most advanced thinking among top cardiologists?

So does he have zero sign of cardiovascular disease or doesn’t he?

It seems to me that Donald being grossly overweight and having swollen ankles is an obvious sign that he is at risk of cardiovascular disease. I'm sure his doctor wouldn't reveal anything negative even if were life threatening to him. The only reason they acknowledge his swollen ankles is because he can't hide them.

He isn't in excellent health.

That's the good news.

When people approach Trump's age their future is generally predictable--they will eventually die, usually of cancer or cardiovascular disease (while some have a higher risk of both, I generally find that most people fall into one group or the other), and when that is recognized, they can choose to either take appropriate action to delay the inevitable or just ignore it (which Trump is apparently doing). While there are no guarantees, those who choose to ignore it fare worse--we can only wish the same for him. FWIW, the only way to benefit from any medical advice is to follow it (or at least take it into account) so I don't think he is benefitting from anything.
