There is so much that is so awful that I just have grieving fatigue - but this one really, really hurts. We grew up together, after all - nearly constant companions across the ages of my life. One of the best things we ever did and I was always so proud to be a funder.
Fuck MAGA.

I could be wrong, but I don't think it's going anywhere. It will rely more on donations and contributions, probably some from corporations looking to be mentioned, and wealthy individuals (many of them liberals), along with local supporters. They might shift their programming to be more moderate, maybe even more conservative. I don't know. But I do believe it's here to stay.BoSoxGal wrote: ↑Sat Aug 02, 2025 12:42 amA private corporation funded by the American people.

I've watched it for years, and lately, the quality of the programs just isn't what it used to be. The science shows used to really grab my interest, and the political ones felt more informational and less biased. But as I said, I don't think it's going anywhere. They'll still be in business.
I expected to be placed in an air force combat position such as security police, forward air control, pararescue or E.O.D. I would have liked dog handler. I had heard about the dog Nemo and was highly impressed. “SFB” is sad I didn’t end up in E.O.D.

YOU ARE WRONG, YOU MAGA ASSHOLE.
The Corporation for Public Broadcasting is DEAD, they publicly announced yesterday they will be shutting the doors in September with a skeleton crew on hand for another few months to tie up loose ends leftover from nearly 60 years of excellence in broadcasting support.
DEAD BECAUSE YOUR MAGA ASSHOLE FRIENDS KILLED IT, by refusing to fund it despite MILLIONS of citizens calling and writing to Congress pleading for the funding to be included in the toxic MAGA budget bill. It's OUR money, and they refused to spend it on something WE wanted to keep funding - something that enriches life for Americans rich and poor, rural and citified, liberal, moderate, conservative, libertarian, apolitical.
Fuck you liberty. I have no fucking patience anymore for your bigoted, ignorant kind who go around smashing and breaking beautiful things without even bothering to spend one minute considering the consequences. It's enough to make libruhls cry; all other consequences are irrelevant to you and your fucking Neanderthal pals.
Corporation for Public Broadcasting to close after US funding cut

Truck Fump and all his minions, private and public.
They could lose some of their desperate desire to push "queer" in everyone's face - I don't care if people are bent but NPR never bothers to introduce other commentators as "straight". Maybe it would help the $$$$. Margaretta and I just received our We Love NPR t-shirt (we could share if I lose some girth) because we support freedom and fair journalism with our private funds, regardless of any stances we find less than optimum. That's the point of free speech.
I voted against Trump 3 times now (once in a primary) and wish he and JV Dance would have a head-on collision at speed in dune buggies. But only if it's their choice.
The CPB is the distribution org for the public funds. Now there are no public funds (i.e. my tax dollars supporting genuine truthful journalism with a pretty obvious agenda on social issues), of course it closed. But NPR and associated orgs can continue if the listeners stump up.NPR, which produces news programs such as Morning Edition and All Things Considered, relies on direct federal funds for only a small portion of its budget. But its approximately 1,000 member stations receive a heftier portion of their operating revenue through CPB. Those in rural and poor areas in particular rely on CPB grants. With its nightly PBS News Hour and children's programming, such as Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood, PBS gets around 15% of its revenue from federal money, as do its member stations on average.
"The ripple effects of this closure will be felt across every public media organization and, more importantly, in every community across the country that relies on public broadcasting,"

For Christianity, by identifying truth with faith, must teach-and, properly understood, does teach-that any interference with the truth is immoral. A Christian with faith has nothing to fear from the facts

Well, at least I'm grateful that you recognize I'm not MAGA. I may travel on the same train with them, but only if it's going in my direction. As far as Trump is concerned, you could consider him a useful tool; I don't care. I actually doubt he's an idiot, and I don't care if he is, as long as certain things happen at the end of the day. I accept that there will be collateral damage on the way to a successful end; that's unfortunate, but that's just how messy operations go.BoSoxGal wrote: ↑Sat Aug 02, 2025 11:12 amYOU ARE WRONG, YOU MAGA ASSHOLE.

Regarding your comment about it being "our money" and that we should spend it on CPB if we want to, our money? Or does it belong to our creditors? You may not want to accept it. but that's the way it is. Perhaps too many in this country live with delusions of grandeur, believing what we have can go on forever. The government's ability to borrow is not unlimited; it’s not a cornucopia endlessly spewing goody.
The debt will soon become unmanageable, and the money you want to spend on CPB will be needed to pay interest on that debt. Things could get so bad that we might have to close national parks, maybe even lease some to private concerns. In the end, we're going to have to raise taxes, not just for the wealthy, but for everyone, because the cutbacks are simply not saving enough.
And let’s be honest; very few political conversations end without bruises; We all have to give up something, Is essential that we be realistic but the situation we're in and deal with it.
Oh, and regarding the personal remark; I appreciate the sentiment, but respectfully, my dear, you're about 10 to 15 years too late; those days are behind me

Liberty told us:
Put it this way. We could still take 99% of Musks's net worth and he would still be impossibly wealthy. Assuming he did build his companies on his engineering skills and financial smarts (that's a major league 'if' right there) he still used taxpayer funded roads and taxpayer funded education and taxpayer funded military (=relative freedom) as scaffolding. Democracy will not survive long in countries with this level of wealth inequality.
The cutbacks are simply not saving enough. Sure, lib. We will see the real cost of cutbacks next time a river floods and we couldn't (or wouldn't) find the few million it would take to put in an alarm system. Or next time there are floods in Maryland and Trump says he won't activate FEMA.The debt will soon become unmanageable, and the money you want to spend on CPB will be needed to pay interest on that debt. Things could get so bad that we might have to close national parks, maybe even lease some to private concerns.
