I have not tried confirm it, but Sunday in a zoom discussion of Hitler and the collapse the Weimar republic, the statement was made that in Vanity Fair in 1990 there was an interview with Trump's first wife (as they were in a messy divorce) in which Ivana claimed Donald always cared around a book, sort of like a loyal Baptist who always carries around their Bible, but never reads much in it--the book was volume one of Hitler's collected speeches. She said he just carried it around; she never saw him reading any book.

That's not mediocrity; we've had lots of mediocre politicians. It's the triumph of incompetence and the celebration of that triumph--the guy who couldn't even get a Participant trophy on his own winning first prize. The thing you're most known for -- and this is a bipartisan sentiment -- is being the most incompetent person that any person has ever seen.

TACO. Trump always chickens out. Today I head him say 'We tried to negotiate but it didn't work so we will go back to bombing their little hearts out."
What is the general wisdom about continuing a particular failing activity, expecting a different result?
It makes me smile, until I remember I am smiling because I am not in the midst of bombing drones, or surrounded by black uniformed shooters wearing maskes and no numbered badge or name tag. Remember when the NRA tried to frighten us all with images of "Democrat police operatives with big black jackboots?"
No, I do not want to get rid of him. The Veep would be even worse.

. . . or it's all just a matter of market timing . . .
Traders bet hundreds of millions of dollars on oil contracts just minutes before US President Donald Trump announced on Monday that the US would postpone strikes against Iranian energy infrastructure. Market data reviewed by the BBC shows the volume of trade spiked around fifteen minutes before a social media post by the president announcing the move. The price of oil fell sharply after the announcement, dropping 14% in a matter of minutes. Traders who bet on the unexpected move would have made money.
Some market analysts say the unusual activity opens up the possibility that the bets may have been placed with prior knowledge of the decision. The BBC has contacted the White House for comment. A spokesman told the Financial Times that it did not "tolerate any administration official illegally profiteering off of insider knowledge".

There is the rub, of course,. What the did was not illegal. Once upon a time, in another century, It was important for American politicians to not just not break the law, but not cross the bounds of immorality. As an American Statesman once said when he was a president under impeachment, it all depends on the meaning of. . . " That was about the same time they learned that they could not be charged with perjury if they just said I cannot recall. No more need to plead the Fifth.
