My nephew recently discovered he mess born missing a kidney and more importantly the other one is malformed and no longer functioning so he will be needing a transplant ASAP. We’ve started a GoFundMe to help cover the medical bills and other incidentals (He lives in the UP which apparently does not have any hospitals capable of dealing with pediatric renal issues so he’s been airlifted downstate which means there is a 6 hour trip one way for immediate family. Etc.

The Michigan UP is a strange place. I moved to Delaware from the Michigan thumb area on Easter weekend, 1972. As I drove south, I saw lots of snowmobiles headed north to the UP. Today I learned that a grandson is partnered with a nice young lady who had a father that took the entire family camping in the UP every summer. She remembers sleeping on the bare ground with blankets and what a luxury it was when they began including a foam pad. Mostly I posted this to move it back up the page.
