Heaven "is a fairy story for people afraid of the dark"

Post by thestoat »

"I regard the brain as a computer which will stop working when its components fail. There is no heaven or afterlife for broken down computers; that is a fairy story for people afraid of the dark," he added.

Hawking's latest comments go beyond those laid out in his 2010 book, The Grand Design, in which he asserted that there is no need for a creator to explain the existence of the universe. The book provoked a backlash from some religious leaders, including the chief rabbi, Lord Sacks, who accused Hawking of committing an "elementary fallacy" of logic.

I wonder why Lord Sacks things his logic is better that Professor Hawkins'?

There really is a person named 'Lord Sacks'? Aside from that, when the world ends or starts ending or we all get free ice cream on saturday (coming - May 21st) what will the people that were wrong do? what will the people who now have to live (forever) in a city made of gold with jewels and other useless shit everywhere, singing hymns and not Skynyrd songs do?

What him again? He usually doesn't sound so unscientific, and derogatory, over-used clichés, doesn't make him more credible. Is he trying to sell more books or something?

My take on all of this is the old Three Dog Night song,

I swear there aint no heaven and I prey there aint no hell.
I expect to go straight to hell...........at least I won't have to spend time making new friends.

Jonathan Henry Sacks, Baron Sacks, Kt (born 8 March 1948, London) is the Chief Rabbi of the United Hebrew Congregations of the Commonwealth. His Hebrew name is Yaakov Zvi. As the spiritual head of the United Synagogue, the largest synagogue body in the UK, he is the Chief Rabbi of the mainstream British Orthodox synagogues, but not the religious authority for the Federation of Synagogues or the Union of Orthodox Hebrew Congregations or the other movements, Masorti, Reform and Liberal Judaism.

Just for my Atheist friends: Because I really do love you. 8-)

All truth passes through three stages. First, it is ridiculed. Second, it is violently opposed. Third, it is accepted as being self-evident.

Oh! Cool. Glad to turn you on to that scathing sarcasm. And the ring of truth doesn't hurt. At least for those of us that feel very comfortable with our own beliefs. [And I would like to point out that I personally make a distinct differentiation between "Religion" and "Spirituality". Nuff said. It gets better though. Peruse some of the related links. No no. You pick the topic. The man was a genius.

God will strike him dead for his blasphemy! Just as soon as She gets done laughing Her Arse off! @ :D :ok

Peace~ 8-)
