A magazine cover featuring groundbreaking Melbourne model Andrej Pejic has been deemed too racy for magazine stands in the US because the gender-bending "Broady boy" is bare-chested and looks too feminine.
The 19-year-old from working-class Broadmeadows has taken the fashion world by storm with his androgynous look, modelling womenswear for Paris couture shows and even wearing a wedding dress for Jean Paul Gaultier.
But his latest magazine cover for the New York-based magazine Dossier Journal - in which he is pictured taking off his shirt with his long blond locks in curlers - has been ruled too risque by US bookstores Barnes & Noble and Borders, which are covering the image with an opaque sleeve.
Dossier creative director Skye Parrott told the Huffington Post that the magazine had informed both stores that Pejic was male, and that they were essentially censoring the image of a shirtless man.
However, both stores stood by their decisions, saying customers could mistake Pejic for a shirtless woman.
"It's a naked man on the cover of a magazine, which is done all of the time without being covered up, so I definitely don't think it merits this, but I understand what it is," Ms Parrott said.
"It seems that it probably made people uncomfortable. But that's part of what's interesting about the cover, I think, is that it's playing with those ideas of gender roles. He's topless, you can see that he's a man, but if you look at his face, he looks like a woman and he's so beautiful ... "

Not Manson, no. He was only ever known as Marilyn.
He did a naff song in the 80's called "Calling my Name."

He looks like a teenager in too much make-up and hair spray.
Re: Moobs banned
Great job by the photographer getting the most out of the suggestion of femininity. The picture really works in keeping the viewer engaged.
Cropping it there and putting his pants below his waist gives an impression of hips. And having his shoulders forward relaxed his pectoral muscles into looking like they might be something they aren't.

Welcome to the 1970s. Jeebus, where have these people been the last 40 years? Did they miss the whole glam thing? Didn't any of them go to college/art school? The 19-year-old from working-class Broadmeadows has taken the fashion world by storm with his androgynous look, modelling womenswear for Paris couture shows and even wearing a wedding dress for Jean Paul Gaultier.

I was thinking that Napoleon Hill himself could have penned that as a Universal Life truth. I still believe it applicable...

It works now for the same reason it worked back then.
As long as gender-defined identities are socially important it will continue to 'work' and be recycled. Look at how quickly very young children learn that gender is important.

Right. Glam was androgynous, but it wasn't entirely nude.
I think the biggest problem with Andrej Pejic's cover is not just that he looks female, but that his small breasts make him look like a prepubescent female, while the make-up adds to effect of making him a sexy prepubescent female. There's a lot of disapproval for turning underage girls into sex objects. Even if he is male, this pic is still saying prepubescent girls are sexy.

That makes no sense whatsoever.loCAtek wrote:Even if he is male, this pic is still saying prepubescent girls are sexy.
Unless of course this pic makes you want to run out and fuck a dog...
Why is it that when Miley Cyrus gets naked and licks a hammer it's 'art' and 'edgy' but when I do it I'm 'drunk' and 'banned from the hardware store'?
Re: Moobs banned
Not quite.
Drag queens and she-males, while biologically male, are deliberately exhibiting feminine traits and behaviors to attract men to them.
Andrej Pejic's other photo shoots portrayed him as a sexually mature female.

However if that transgender feminine 'look' is juvenile, you've crossed the line into pedophilia, unfortunately.

Re: Moobs banned
And what gives you the idea that he is either a drag queen or a 'she-male' or indeed anything other than an androgynous male?
There is a distinction between what is being portrayed and your perception of what is being portrayed and quite frankly your perception of this including your use of the word 'pedophilia' makes me think that your mind is a dark and scary place...
On the other hand, maybe some Catholic priests are wanking over pics of Jeanette Krankie... who knows...
