I see we even had a spammer that was spamming his own threads whilst I was off line.

That was VERY considerate of him/her/it.

:)
Bah!

Aha! So Hen is a no good spammer!

I think we all knew it deep down...
Why is it that when Miley Cyrus gets naked and licks a hammer it's 'art' and 'edgy' but when I do it I'm 'drunk' and 'banned from the hardware store'?

Why are the websites they advertise always from Poland? Something in the water?

Here's what's going on and why Tim....

There are soft wares that will auto create phony identities, auto fill out forum registration forms, and even automatically fill out captchas and click emailed confirmation links. Other soft wares will "spin" the text. (This why we frequently see spam posts that look like they were written by illiterates, or complete gibberish, or that contain random sentences about completely unconnected topics.)

In a way, you can blame Google for this. The reason these people do it isn't because they expect any actual human being to read these generated posts and click on the links to what they're hawking. The reason they do it is to get back links from numerous sources pointing to the site they're promoting. The Google algorithims like sites with lots of back links, and give them higher search engine rankings for keywords. Also, the algorithims will downgrade sites if the back links are accompanied by the identical text and posted by the same identity, which is why the spinning software is used. To the Google search engines, this makes it look like there are lots of different people interested in the site on numerous other sites.

The best thing to do of course is to just delete them so they don't get the back link.

Thank you very much for that explanation Jim.

I knew there had to be a logical reason. Still bites.
