Andrew Malcolm, who wrote the piece, is a Republican hack who was Laura Bush's press secretary. That would be a hint to anyone with the brain cells that god gave a turnip that it isn't going to be a left leaning piece.

You see, unlike the right-wing rags with which you fill your days reading, legitimate news outlets frequently run pieces written by those of all political leanings.

Also, the other link was to the Boston Herald, not the Globe; the Herald is a notorious right-wing rag: a Rupert Murdoch publication spun off to a News Corp exec so that Fox could purchase another TV station in the area. So much for your "liberal media."

It's true that shots were fired and bells were rung, but not by Revere. According to David Hackett Fischer's 1995 book "Paul Revere's Ride," Revere rode to the house of Captain Isaac Hall, commander of Medford's minutemen, and it was Hall who triggered the town's alarm system. Fischer added (on page 140): "A townsman remembered that 'repeated gunshots, the beating of drums and the ringing of bells filled the air.' "

In Palin's defense, it's true that American rebels had stored arms and gunpowder at Concord, and that British Gen. Thomas Gage not only had orders to arrest the leaders, but had decided to seize and destroy those arms. Alerted by Revere, American militia members confronted the British at the battles of Lexington and Concord, the first armed encounters of the Revolutionary War.

Peter Roff, who wrote the US News piece, is yet another Republican hack, the former political director of GOPAC.

The Washington Times is owned by the Moonies, I don't think I need say anything more.

Does it really make moral sense for our collective decisions to be made by people who have no idea what the decisions are even about?

The Sage of Baltimore predicted: "As democracy is perfected, the office [of President] represents, more and more closely, the inner soul of the people. We move toward a lofty ideal. On some great and glorious day, the plain folks of the land will reach their heart’s desire at last, and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron."

But this has always been the case in American politics, at least since the very dawn of the 19th Century. And at that time we elected Jefferson. Not that he -- or any President since, I think -- was particularly loved or even respected by the opposition. Yet somehow, despite our ignorant and retarded population and our unprincipled and idiotic politics, we manage to muddle through. I have not lost hope for a better future, or for better leadership, but I do spend a lot of time saying, "Gah!"
