And is totally irrelevant.

Hmm.

Sanitation worker - check
Incident happened on the job - check
Entered victim's house - check

The only difference is that, in this case, the perp had to force his way in, instead of being invited to come in and given the opportunity to rape, as he would have been had your sweet old lady had the misfortune of asking him to take her TV.

And it wasn't an old lady, and it wasn't in the UK, and it wasn't evidence of the dustbin service harbouring sheltering and colluding with granny rapists, and hit has nothing to do with health and safety banning the dustbinmen from shifting an old woman's tele, and even if it could be proved that this in some way had any relevance to the point in hand, one example of a drunk rapist dustbinman, does not mean that old ladies should be denied a little bit of help and compassion, and it's just a ludicrous nonsensical stupid and unworthy reductio ad absurdum which in no way refutes the OP.

But apart from that you're doing fine.

Because clearly old ladies are never raped.
Because clearly no one ever gets raped in the UK.

It has everything to do with the potential liabities that may emanate from workers casually deciding to enter homes when their jobs do not authorize them to, and it is only one of many scenarios that could incur liability for the local government.

But there is not any point in arguing further because once again you have slipped into Mickey the Dunce mode when someone was able to point out to you that a situation is not as cut and dried as you might have thought at the outset, so I think I am done here.

I was going to say a similar thing, (without the insult.)

I was going to say that you live in your world where a simple act of common kindness needs such liability management, regulatory oversight, cost control and management, and I'll live in mine where little old ladies should be able to ask big strong dustbinmen to lend a hand.

I’m happy to let it go at that.

To be clear, Scooter, that garbage collector tried to rape his neighbor, a gal he'd already been harassing - not really all that comparable to the hypothetical you proposed.

I see your points about the liability issues, but I also concur with Gob and Hen that it's absurdly sad we have come to this point.

I think Granny would likely be safer with the dustbinman than with the neighborhood teen boys. Were it not for the paper pushers, I'm sure they'd both be happy to resolve the issue the common sense way.

But then, there is very little common sense to be had these days.

As an aside, how does one post a link with a phrase inserted as the link? That is a neat trick!
