Clue me in here
I've been reading a bit about the republican runners for the next Pres spot. Ok, what if a Democrat wants to have a shot at it? Are they allowed to stand against Obama?

Re: Clue me in here
Yes. If another candidate wants to throw his/her hat in for the Democratic nomination, there would be primaries and whoever came out on top would be the nominee. It's rare for a sitting president to be challenged for the nomination, but it has happened.

Re: Clue me in here
So Obama would be forced to go through the same old dog and pony show that the republicans are having. Who would run the country in his absence?

It's not as if he wouldn't have been campaigning in any case, even if he wasn't actually calling it that.

In the past several decades Strop, there have only been two serious challenges mounted from within their party to incumbent Presidents...
Ronald Reagan's challenge to Gerald Ford in '76, and Ted Kennedy's challenge to Jimmy Carter in '80.

And you can see how well those internal challenges worked out for the party in power . . . .

I love American politics!
Does anyone remember a sitcom "Soap"? It was a parody of daytime soap operas. American politics always remind me of that. Just when you think a little sanity is returning, they go and dive off the deep end.
