Punctuation
Punctuation
I came across this old test in a book I was re-reading, I ran it by Hatch, she had a fair stab at it, but didn't quite get it all.
Correctly punctuate the following sentence so it reads well.
Smith where Brown had had had had had had had had had had had the examiner's approval.

“If you trust in yourself, and believe in your dreams, and follow your star. . . you'll still get beaten by people who spent their time working hard and learning things and weren't so lazy.”
Re: Punctuation
Grammar, schammer. Anyone who would write a sentence like that should literarily be shot.
Re: Punctuation
Smith, where Brown had had "had had", had had "had"; "had had" had had the examiner's approval.

Scooter nails it in one!

Re: Punctuation
Now who can give me a sentence which contains the word 'and' five times in a row?
Why is it that when Miley Cyrus gets naked and licks a hammer it's 'art' and 'edgy' but when I do it I'm 'drunk' and 'banned from the hardware store'?
Re: Punctuation
Isn't it something along the lines of;
"He noticed the gap between and and "and and" was larger?
I'm one short there though

Re: Punctuation
Nope, try again...

Why is it that when Miley Cyrus gets naked and licks a hammer it's 'art' and 'edgy' but when I do it I'm 'drunk' and 'banned from the hardware store'?
Re: Punctuation
It was right there and and and and and now it's gone...
Sometimes it seems as though one has to cross the line just to figger out where it is
Re: Punctuation
lmao - I should've said without stuttering...

Why is it that when Miley Cyrus gets naked and licks a hammer it's 'art' and 'edgy' but when I do it I'm 'drunk' and 'banned from the hardware store'?
Re: Punctuation
Put more space between Pig and and and and and Whistle.Sean wrote:Now who can give me a sentence which contains the word 'and' five times in a row?
Anyone care to punctuate it (this one is easier).

Re: Punctuation
Put more space between "Pig" and "and", and "and" and "Whistle".
And do it NOW.
And do it NOW.
Bah!

Re: Punctuation
I would think: Put more space between 'Pig' and 'and' and 'and' and 'Whistle'.
Why is it that when Miley Cyrus gets naked and licks a hammer it's 'art' and 'edgy' but when I do it I'm 'drunk' and 'banned from the hardware store'?
Re: Punctuation
I'm not sure if the comma works; it's probably not grammatically indicated but I can see the effect of a slight pause there.

Re: Punctuation
I agree with Sean. However Gob, being a cronic over user of commas, insisted it was necessary. I hate commas and I don't believe it was.
Bah!

Re: Punctuation
It is a natural pause but it's not right to follow a comma with 'and'.
