Hen, the public obviously respected a working dog, on duty. Same way a human guard would command respect.

The dog was going to feed and diaper a baby that was found hungry and wet?

The public respected the dog? What a lot of shit.

The public didn't get involved is closer to the truth. If the public knew that there was a baby in the pram the public was extremely derelict in their duty to not have the baby taken in over night.

Other than the grandfather making a sweeping unsubstantiated claim that the dog kept strangers away, there is no evidence that anyone came close to being interested in what the pram contained.

That is not respect. That is disinterest.

I am glad the dog stayed put.

I was imagining a Jungle Book type scenario. Some foot-tapping tunes might cheer the Russians up a bit too.

'The public' in Saratov, Russia in a park, the middle of the night would be pimps and their human traffick - prostitutes.
Governor Dimitry Ayatskov has proposed legalizing prostitution in the Saratov region to bring in tax money into the regional treasury. Police estimate the monthly illegal income from prostitution exceeds US$417,000. Prostitution has greatly increased in that region, syphillis rates have quadrupuled in the last three years.

If they didn't take the child, the cops would be no help;

Official Corruption and Collaboration

In 1996 in Moscow an entire police precinct was disbanded because officers had been running a prostitution ring along Tverskaya Street in Moscow. (Associated Press, 1997)

If not to the sex trade, the child could have just been sold to illegal infant traffickers. No wonder, the mother's first concern was that her child had been kidnapped.

Russia is perhaps the center of European human trafficking. Women are trafficked from Russia to Western Europe, and many Eastern European women are trafficked through Russia. Russian and Eastern European women are also trafficked to the U.S., Japan, and the Caribbean, among other places. And yet, Russian authorities have repeatedly claimed that they have no responsibility for the men, women, and girls who are lured overseas and then enslaved, or the ones passed through Russia by foreign nationals. And now, they are making it almost impossible for victims who are returning to Russia to find help.

That's right folks, the child was better off with a dog as any people who passed by were guaranteed to be pimps, prossies, bent coppers or child traffickers.

The facts don't lie! Not even if they are used out of context or relate to a completely different city...

A Russian dog guarded a three-month-old overnight after the child's mother went drinking and forgot about her baby, a Russian news service reported on Friday.

Twenty-two year old Olga had gone into a park in the city of Saratov with her child and pet when she met friends, RT* reported.
From RT*;
A dog from the Russian city of Saratov is being credited with guarding a baby overnight in a city park after the child’s mother had a few too many drinks and forgot about it.

The 22-year old mother (and owner of the dog) said that while taking son Vadim and their Rottweiler Lada for a walk in the park, she met friends who invited her out for a few drinks. She took them up on the offer, and stumbled home drunk hours later after consuming more than a few beers, Saratov news agency reports.

“It just happened so that night,” Olga later confessed to the Komsomolskaya Pravda newspaper.

When Olga awoke the next morning it occurred to her that she had left her child and her dog behind. She panicked and called her parents, telling them that her son had been stolen. They rushed to her apartment to assist in the search for the missing boy and started calling a number of her friends to ask if they had any knowledge of the child’s whereabouts.

Shortly thereafter, Olga’s father went searching for his missing grandson on foot. In a matter of minutes he found Vadim at the park, still parked in his stroller. His faithful dog Lada sat calmly beside him, keeping watch over the boy as she had throughout the night.

According to Olga’s neighbors, “The weather was quite warm, so the baby even managed not to catch cold. Thank God, the dog had been guarding the whole night and had been keeping away all strangers.”

Olga’s mother has taken temporary custody of her grandson while officials consider potential charges in the case.

Indeed.

And from your post:

Can you spot the difference?

Did you know that Moscow and Saratov were both in Eastern Russia and part of 'the center of European human trafficking', I linked to?

Of course I did. I was intrigued about why the corrupt Muscovite police force would be patrolling the parks in Saratov.

Because police corruption is throughout Russia, and Moscow is one example of it? Do you understand that this means corruption exists in Saratov [hence the human trafficking crisis] and many other Eastern Russian cities besides?

So if it happens in one Russian city it happens in them all? Not to mention that your quote was regarding a prostitution ring and not slavery.

You fucking idiot!

You've done it now. You said "fucking" in regards to her so it's obvious that you want to have sex with her.

Well...

First of all it seems to me, that human traffickers wouldn't have been deterred by the dog...they would simply have shot it....

And LoCa, the argument you're making that the park would have been frequented by lowlifes at night seems to me to be self defeating of your point...

If that's the case, all the more reason for why anyone who happened by who wasn't a low life had a responsibility to report the situation

ETA:
any people who passed by were guaranteed to be pimps, prossies, bent coppers or child traffickers.
Somehow, I don't think that's going to make the City of Saratov Convention And Visitors Bureau brochure.... :D

Anyone who happened by who wasn't a low life? So far, that doesn't match a single person mentioned in this story.

Russia Closes All But Two Human Trafficking Help Centers

The Russian government made drastic cuts to its human trafficking assistance services this week, reducing the number of funded help centers to just two in the whole country. Only two places for trafficked people to get help in one of the largest countries in the world with a well-documented human trafficking problem? Someone must have gotten into the vodka a little early in order to make that call.

Valeria, a 19-year-old sex trafficking survivor, wants Russia to take responsibility for what happened to her. Lacking any opportunities in her home country, she took a job as a waitress in Abu Dhabi that turned out to be forced prostitution. She escaped when a customer helped her to leave, but still bears both the emotional scars and the physical branding her traffickers marked her with. After eight months of her ordeal, when she returned to Russia, they had no help available for her. After all Valeria survived, who will help her now?

I have to wonder how Russia can be so blind to what is such a significant human rights problem. I have to wonder if their refusal to work against trafficking is more than just ignorance or laziness, if it's purposeful. Human trafficking generates a lot of money for a lot of people. And some of those people have strong government connections. Traffickers want their victims to feel hopeless, to know that even if they escape and make it back to Russia, no help awaits them there. I have to wonder if people associated with the industry had anything to do with the closure of these help centers.

So because, as you assert, there is nothing but lowlife in every park in Saratov, it made perfect sense to turn the other way when coming across an abandoned baby in one.
