What you get, what you pay?

Post by Gob »

Just been watching (yet another) bit of climbing video online. (The one half way down this page if you're interested.)

It reminded me of something me and Hen were talking about the other day. Remember when you could switch off the images in your browser to save download?

Today though we happily watch reams of video, Hen is working her way through "have I got news for you" on youtube, download movies and music (only legal ones of course) and generally do not worry about the download limit.

So I was wondering, what download/upload cost do you pay, and what if any, is your limit?

We pay $60 Au per month ($64 US / £40 UK) for 150 gig up/down.

We have a 1gig limit after which the speed is throttled back. This costs the princely sum of $17 per month. The fact that we're on satellite and our speeds aren't up to much anyway means that it's not worth paying any more.

We don't stream video and apart from the occasional download it's mostly for browsing.

And Scrabble.
Why is it that when Miley Cyrus gets naked and licks a hammer it's 'art' and 'edgy' but when I do it I'm 'drunk' and 'banned from the hardware store'?

For $30/mo. I get unlimited access on my iPhone. For another $20/mo. I could get up to 2 gig using my iPhone as a hotspot for my home computer, too. That was my plan, because it's $50/mo. for home Internet alone. I don't game or download music, etc., so a limit doesn't bother me. Thus far I've decided to do without the hotspot, because I'm trying to spend less time online and more time working on my novel, anyway.

I pay $30/month for DSL at home...not sure what my limits are, I have never come close to them and won't until I get a new computer.

I have a pay-per-minute plan on an old LG phone...I'm getting an Android smartphone soon. It will be Virgin Mobile: 300 minutes and unlimited everything else (text, email, Web) for $35/month.

I dunno what I pay or what I get. I have a husband that looks after all the stuff.

(Well, I guess I should post that my husband pays Eleventy- twelve dollars a fortnight and we get boogely-boo gigs per annum.)

I Pay £25.99 a month ($39 Aus &42 US) for an unlimited up/download connection plus a second "phone line" via VOIP. I do a lot of downloading and live streaming as I have Sky Anytime Plus so I can watch live TV or movies etc.
If you can keep your head while those around you are losing theirs, you may have misjudged the situation.

I pay about $80- a month for a 'bundle' from Comcast: television, phone and internet. We-all use the internet, and the roomies get the television; it all works out in tax write -offs
