London advice
Re: London advice
Indeed, always better to take more than less, even if you are planning on using credit cards for most things.
If you believe you'll have a lot of currency left over and don't want to have to exchange it back, use it on your last day to pay a portion of your hotel bill and put the rest on your credit card.

If a man speaks in the forest and there are no women around to hear is he still wrong?

But then, that's just me.
Re: London advice
So on Wednesday we have to get from London to Dover to catch a boat (7pm probably need to be there 2 hours ahead). What would be a good way to get there? Is there something to see or do there if we go early and spend the day ?
Speaking of boats, I was surprised when I looked at google earth how little shipping seems to go up the Thames? There is a smallish container port near Tilbury but nothing that looks large enough to supply much of England. Or even London. What is the major container port for the country, I wonder?
The river barrier is very cool.

Re: London advice
Dover has some white cliffs (and if you're lucky you'll get to see the bluebirds) but that's about it as far as I recall.
I reckon Liverpool would be England's main shipping port these days.

Why is it that when Miley Cyrus gets naked and licks a hammer it's 'art' and 'edgy' but when I do it I'm 'drunk' and 'banned from the hardware store'?

Spending two days in London is a shame.
A week is needed to at least SEE the place.
I wish I was going....Bon Voyage

Your collective inability to acknowledge this obvious truth makes you all look like fools.

Just looking at google earth, Southhampton has a big container port. Is that it?
I thinks there's some sort of castle thing in Dover, worth seeing?

I've been dying to get back to London. Enjoy!

Unless you feel comfortable about driving on the "wrong" side of the road, do not take a car.
Bah!

Re: London advice
There isn't a huge amount to see in Dover, it's a bit of a hole to be honest.
If you're crossing the channel with a car I would hugely recommend Le Shuttle or Eurostar if you're on foot rather than a ferry crossing it's really quick and pretty good value. We just used Le Shuttle to get to and from France in the last few weeks, way less stressful than the ferries.

My wife flew direct from SF to Dublin and then drove across Ireland to the W. Coast w/o incident. Crappy roads but the people were very nice.
But renting a car isn't going to work this time.
