The report led to angry condemnation of the Vatican by Prime Minister Enda Kenny in the Irish Parliament.
In a blistering attack, Mr Kenny accused the church of putting its reputation ahead of child rape victims.

The problem is that these fuckers see themselves as above the law.
A possible indication of the mood towards Ireland came in the weekend choice of words by Msgr Gianfranco Girotti, number two at the apostolic penitentiary, when he told Il Foglio newspaper the Holy See would never accept Irish legislation that might attempt to break the seal of confession. “Ireland can pass all the laws it likes but it should understand that the church will never accept the obligation on a confessor to report to civil authorities . . .”
It is obvious that some people within the Church still don't get it.
And yet, the Church has the power to force the entire hierarchy to take this seriously. Pastors, Monsignors, Bishops, etc., should be faced with excommunication and loss of all support if found to be negligent or complicit, or even not appropriately diligent in rooting out these people and problems.
Ironically, aside from the victims themselves, the people who are being hurt most by this organizational negligence are the priests (etc) who are clean. These are the ones who come under a cloud for no reason other than association with the Church.
The root problem is the Church's method of recruiting and training priests. It is a virtual invitation to pedophiles and other men of a perversion which shall remain nameless. The Church's insistence on confining the priesthood to unmarried males is neither scriptural nor historical, and the sooner it ends - as it inevitably will - the better it will be for everyone associated with the Church.
