You are fucking joking.
I am not living up in the Northern Territory or far north Western Australia just for you to get the distances you seek.

Re: Worlds Best Cities
I was wondering that. If you were living in NZ and wanted a city 1000 km away it'd have to be Brisbane!
Why is it that when Miley Cyrus gets naked and licks a hammer it's 'art' and 'edgy' but when I do it I'm 'drunk' and 'banned from the hardware store'?

There's one big huge problem with this whole analysis.
They're all big ginormous cities.

Call it what you want. Was that supposed to be sarcasm?
I'll explain. they are classifying these huge cities as being the best places to live. For many, that alone puts them at the bottom of the list.

Re: Worlds Best Cities
Ah, I see. I was confused by your characterization of cities of 1-4 million people as "huge". I guess it's a perspective thing.

The Mercer Quality of Living Survey is released annually, comparing 221 cities based on 39 criteria. New York is given a baseline score of 100 and other cities are rated in comparison. Important criteria are safety, education, hygiene, health care, culture, environment, recreation, political-economic stability and public transportation.
The Economist Group is an associate and not a subsidiary of Pearson PLC. The Financial Times Limited, which is a Pearson subsidiary, owns 50% of the share capital of The Economist Group but does not have a controlling interest. The bulk of the remaining shares are held by individual shareholders including the Cadbury, Rothschild, Schroder and other family interests as well as a number of staff and former staff shareholders. The Economist Group operates as a separate and independent business.
The Economist Intelligence Unit's livability also uses data from the Mercer consulting group and shows cities in Canada, Australia, Austria, Finland and New Zealand as the ideal destinations thanks to a widespread availability of goods and services, low personal risk and an effective infrastructure. It does not take into account the cost of living as a factor in 'livability'. The Economist Intelligence Unit has been criticized by the New York Times for being overly anglocentric, stating that "The Economist clearly equates livability with speaking English.
