Some parents need to be slapped upside the head

Post by Scooter »

How about, gee I don't know, learning to control your own damn kid:
A Northern Ireland man whose 12-year-old daughter won't stop posting "sexually explicit" photos of herself on Facebook is suing the social media giant for failing to enforce its own age restrictions.

According to Hilary Carmichael Solicitors, the suit alleges Facebook is "guilty of negligence" and creating "a risk of sexual and physical harm" to the child.

"She appears heavily made-up, she appears in a provocative pose and she appears much older than her 12 years," Carmichael told BBC News.

The child also posted details about where she lives and attends school. People started contacting her asking for more pictures and sending her sexually charged messages, Carmichael told the news agency.

The girl's father shut down her account, but she just opened a new one.

Facebook requires users to be at least 13, but doesn't have any method of checking a person's age.
I guess the thought of keeping her away from a computer and taking away the slutty makeup (aside from grounding her until she's 25) never occurred to him. Nah, easier to sue Facebook.

The daughter isn't the only 12 year old in that family, apparently.

The response of today's slack parents. Blame someone else.

They end up living the life they deserve. Let's hear it for karma.
Bah!

Just last Sunday I took a phone call from the parent of a "mentally ill" kid we just took on. (The kid is no more mentally ill than you are.)

"He's gone off with his mates again, hasn't been back all weekend, and I think he's been smoking cannabis with them. He's got a friend, I think he's called Ashley, and I think he lives in Turner*, can you go and try and talk him into coming home? He just hangs up his mobile when I ring him."

"No."

*Turner is a suburb of Canberra.

It's what happens when parents try and be their off-spring's friends.

You are NOT your off-spring's friend. Man up and be her Father. It is not up to Facebook to enforce what you should not be allowing.
Bah!

I would guess that the father is paying for the computer/internet connection and cell phone. Stop paying the bills and the companies will shut of the service for him (seeing as how he doesn't have the balls to stop her himself).

I can't comprehend the reasoning behind 80% of today's parenting.
For me, it is far better to grasp the Universe as it really is than to persist in delusion, however satisfying and reassuring.

Me either, at least half the time.
