The barminess of the EU never ends...

Which never included any sort of a "ban" on the use of balloons by young children.

Now can we agree that this is a waste of taxpayers money, and an unnecessary legislative and bureaucratic imposition?

Do you know for a fact that there has been significant problems that have been the impetus for these regulations? Of course not. Still you can carry on beating your little tin drum if you wish. I'm sure you get something out of it.,
BTW did you not notice which forum this was posted in?

No, which is why I didn't come out and say that they were necessary. It's called reserving judgment in the absence of information. Try it sometime.Gob wrote:Do you know for a fact that there has been significant problems that have been the impetus for these regulations?
Yes, and like so many other topics that have been posted in this forum, the truth was the casualty in an attempt to make a situation appear ridiculous.BTW did you not notice which forum this was posted in?

No, the humour was the casualty in an attempt to nit pick out, and bang on about, some "truth" which was not particularly relevant.
Read the directive, there's no "problem" being addressed, just a complex and time wasting bit of EU bureaucracy, of the sort that the EU is famous for, as in the thrust of the OP.

Here's another..
So, imagine a world where, after 25 May when the law kicks in, your startup has to explicitly make pop-up windows and dialogue boxes appear asking for a user’s permission to gather their data. If enforced his law will kill off the European startup industry stone dead, handing the entire sector to other markets and companies, and largely those in the US.

Where have I heard that before? Oh yeah, every time you post one of these "look how ridiculous government is acting" stories and their entire alarmist premise is undercut by a more careful reading than you originally gave them.Gob wrote:No, the humour was the casualty in an attempt to nit pick out, and bang on about, some "truth" which was not particularly relevant.
Funny, but I could swear the risk of choking is clearly stated as the problem purported to be addressed by this regulation.Read the directive, there's no "problem" being addressed
Oh dear, printing a few words on a package label is "complex".just a complex and time wasting bit of EU bureaucracy
I think if they managed to figure out how to manufacture the product, they can figure out how to print a label.
If these examples of allegedly pointless EU bureaucracy are so obviously wrongheaded, then why the need to grossly overstate their intended effect? Why is it that the truth of the matter can never stand on its own and needs to be twisted beyond all recognition?of the sort that the EU is famous for, as in the thrust of the OP.

So what? It is required to clearly secure a user's permission before collecting their personal data. What is so fucking outrageous about that?Gob wrote:Here's another..

This happens every time you go off on one of your self righteous, tedious, nit picking crusades, I'll agree.Scooter wrote:Where have I heard that before? Yes, it is always nitpicking when the entire premise underlying the outrage being fostered is completely undercut.
